Re: Another pet poll

  • I'll be honest - I have had a lot of pets, but the cats I have now I am considerably more attached to. I don't know if it's because they're my first pets that have been all mine (not with my Mom/husband/whatever) or if it's really just the cats themselves.

And that isn't to say I didn't love other pets. I loved my black and white dog more than I can say, but I feel more attached to my cats.

  • I am closest to Whisky (cat), who is pretty much like my child. But it's different with him, because I nursed him back to health after rescuing him from an abusive home. It took more than 4 months for him to stop shaking when someone even looked at him, let alone touch or hold him. So we are really close. I've had him for 9 years, he's 13 now.

My other cat, Falki, is at my mom's and while I love her, she's just plain evil so it's hard to get really attached to her. You try to pet her and she attacks, unless she wants something, in which case she's sweet as can be.

On a side note, I was at my dad's GF's yesterday and they are getting ready to move in with my dad. GF's daughter (11) has an outdoor cat that she was afraid to bring because my dad's street is really busy, and the cat would likely get hit, whereas the lady across the street now loves the cat and offered to care for her. I was there as GF's daughter agreed to give up her cat for her safety and happiness and it was so, so sad watching her face and even more when she started to cry. It was one of those times when you know you're doing the right thing, but it hurts to do so.
  • I've discovered that my affection is different for each animal.  Zelda has my heart b/c she smiles at me and always wants to be with us.  Bennett has my heart b/c he's my first real dog and I held him at eight week and now he has his mask, while still trying to sit in my lap.

I'm not going to lie....I still don't love the cats.  I don't wish them ill or anything, but they don't really fill any sort of animal affection need in me.
