Seating Chart - need advice

I finally sorted out who is sitting together at the reception and now I'm not sure about etiquette regarding the table placement.  For example, we are at a sweetheart table at the front of the room.  Should all the brides' friends and family be on one side and the groom's on the other? (like the church) Or should be mingling everyone?  I know we should seat the younger guests near the dj, along the same lines should we be seating the older guests near the door (which is closer to restrooms)?

Any thoughts or advice?  Am I overthinking the whole thing?  Wedding is next weekend, I think I'm overthinking everything at this point.

Thanks!

Re: Seating Chart - need advice

  • I was planning to do a traditional head table but I wanted to the my immediate family at the closest tables. Scattering friends and family all around from both sides.

A cute way to make a seating chart was with posterboard and little post it with names on it. Easier than scribbling and erasing. =)

No matter how you do it, everything will fall together great!

  • It really depends on how your reception room is laid out. I had a sweetheart table that was directly across from the DJ and the dancefloor, and then we had 5 tables on either side of us. It did work out where my family was on one side and H's family on the other, but then our friends and our parents' friends were all mixed together.

The older folks are seated together, the younger group mixed up. Hoping that the mixture of the younger crowd will draw the older ones together.
