Does anyone wax their legs?

Just been wondering what it feels like.  I don't have a great pain tolerance, so that is what worries me.  I feel like it wouldn't be too bad...

I'm not too fond of knowing I will have to shave the morning of the wedding, and my hair on my legs grows back so fast it's stupid.  And the slightest movement of cool air, and it's all over.

What is everyone's opinion on this?

I was thinking the same thing and would love everyone's opinions!  I would love to not have to shave my legs at all the week of my wedding but I have crazy sensitive skin and I get horrible bumps from waxing my eyebrows which makes me leery about waxing my legs.

I've never tried waxing 'cause the whole idea just looks hideously painful, and I'm just no good with that...

I have an epilater that I use for as far as as my knees, then just shave my thighs [thighs are waaay too sensitive]. Best I can suggest is to try different options now, as opposed to waiting 'till just before the wedding and see what works for you.

The best way I've found is to have a long hot bath to soften the skin, exfoliate with a bath scrubby and shower gel, shave my thighs, relax... Once I get out I dry my legs and epilate straight away whilst my skin's still warm from the bath.

Sometimes [especially the first coupla times] I'd have some tiny red bumps on my legs for a few hours, but they'd be completely gone in 24 hours, then super-smooth legs for a good week, and hair that does grow back is much less noticeable because it's brand new, not the stubbly cut ends of shaved hairs, so I can often get away with it for 10 days-two weeks.

If I just shave... I'm feeling stubbly regrowth by the next day.

    Hope that helps :]
So, maybe things don't always go as planned... Maybe that's okay. I may be alone for now, but my baby boy is on his way, and I wouldn't change a thing.
  • The skin on your legs is MUCH tougher than the skin on your face, therefore doesn't hurt even half as bad as waxing eyebrows. In fact, I don't think it hurts at all.  Do remember that you do have to grow your hair out though, so that there is enough hair for the wax to grab on to!

  • Aynos, that is what I was thinking.  Your legs are pretty tough!  Thanks for the input.
  • Yes! I started a few months ago to prep for the big day, had been asking all over on here about it.

It does take time I would start now if you can to get on the right schedule. I went to European Wax Center it's a franchise but all they do is waxing no haircuts, massages antyhing so they knew their stuff. I also liked that it was a bit more affordable there then a full blown spa.

I think this is the closest to St. Louis but if youre traveling they have them all over. Definitely reccomend. http://www.waxcenter.com/MO-Chesterfield

Also there is a bit of a different between hard and soft wax. Ive been to both and prefer hard wax which they use. So instead of adding a cloth strip the wax itself hardens. Much, much less painful.
  • I've waxed most parts of my body at some point.  Legs are not that painful compared to more sensitive areas.  If you are worried about pain, there is topical numbing cream you can buy.  If you don't wanted to drop $20 on a small tube, you can also get some Orajel (same active ingredient).  Put it on about 30 mins before the appointment and it'll take the edge off.  My esthetician told me that some of her clients have a glass of wine before they come in (just be sure to have a DD...)

The brazilians kinda suck actually.  The worst part is the "landing strip" area.  But, it's a quick pain, with weeks of results.  And I agree with PP, hard wax is less painful!

  • I wax my legs and arms and it doesn't hurt that much IF you know what you're doing. If you've never waxed go to a professional!!!
  • I tried it for the first time two weeks ago and I love it! It was a little painful, but it isn't so bad. It's true that the first time, not all the hairs get taken out, so I am going this week to get the strays. So far, it hasn't grown back in, it's nice to take shorter showers!!!
