Need some wedding advice!

Hi, my name is Hazel and I have been engaged since march of 2012. I plan on getting married in may of 2014. But I have no clue how to get started. I am waiting for my taxes to come in this month so I can start the official planning. My questions are what are the steps I need to take for the wedding planning and also I would want to get married in the same place I have the reception in like a nice patio but wouldn't know how that would work as far as the priest or pastor who would be marrying us. Last but not least we want to say our own vows. How would that work???

    Congratulations!  I would suggest starting with shopping for a venue.  A lot of venues book early so this is definitely a priority.  Since you want to get married at the venue, priests from a church normally do not do these types of ceremonies so you would need to find someone to marry you.  I don't think saying your own vows would be a problem but that can be discussed once you decide who will marry you.  Once the venue is booked you can then start booking your other vendors such as photographer, DJ, florist, etc.  Good Luck!

    Yes, start with your venue.  Most places can accomodate having the ceremony for a small 
    fee.   Before you start shopping for your venue though, you'll need to first figure out how many people you plan of having and how much pp you want to spend.  That will help you narrow down your choices.  

    Once you have that booked and know your date you can start booking other vendors.  I know it can seem overwhelming, but it's really not. Most bridal magazines have a timeline that you can follow of what to do when. 

    You can discuss details of your vows with the person you get to perform your ceremony.

    Congrats on your engagement! The most important thing to do right off the bat is to discuss budget and rank your priorities. What is most important to you? Your dress, your flowers, your venue, your photographer, etc?     Keep all of your documents organized in an easy to find place and you will have no headaches further down the road. Documents would include: budget, priorities, guest list with addresses (I used the knot for this), seating chart, check list (I used the knot for this), invitation mockup (I used pear tree greetings), ceremony programs text, day of timeline (I am super organized and because I didnt have a planner, I did this myself and distributed to vendor lol).
