Tahiti and Bora Bora

Anyone been to either places? We just purchased our tickets!

Re: Tahiti and Bora Bora

  • We are going in the fall.  Only staying a night in Tahiti.  Then we are splitting our time between Moorea and Bora Bora.  Where are you staying?

  • I've been to the islands quite a few times! French Polynesia is one of my favorite places to visit! Congrats on the booking!

  • We went there for our honeymoon 2 years ago. I posted details on my blog: http://darcela.blogspot.com/2010/06/honeymoon-in-french-polynesia.html

You're going to love it there!!!
  • We're going to Bora Bora @ the end of the month!  How exciting that your tickets are purchased!

Any recommendations for things to do/see while we are there?

Congrats to you others who will be going so soon! We will be there in September!
  • Thanks so much I read your blog it was great! Loved all the pictures and the tips!

  • While on Tahiti, do a circle island tour. The island of Tahiti is quite big and is very beautiful outside of downtown Papeete. In Bora Bora, do a shark/ray feeding or Lagoonarium. You can also do a 4x4 jeep tour that takes you up the mountain to see some spectacular views. The Sofitel is in a great location on the main island to be able to explore. You also have complete access to one of the best snorkeling sites on the island across the way at the Sofitel Private Island! I haven't been since March 2010 and am dying to go back. Hopefully it will be next year after we get the wedding out of the way!

  • Thank you!

  • I was incorrect we are staying in Tahiti for two nights at the Manava Suite Resort. Has anyone stayed there?

The rest of our trip we will be at the Sofitel Bora Bora Marara Beach & Private Island resort.

My Costco package didn't come with any meals, how expensive is the food? Should we look into purchasing a package? Any tips or recommendations?
  • Glad you enjoyed our blog post :)

I've never stayed at the Manava but the Trip Advisor reviews are pretty good and the resort is one of the newere ones, so I think you should be good.

Food is quite expensive in general, especially in Bora Bora. At our hotel, the breakfast buffet was around $40 per person. Lunch itself is not too bad, maybe around $20-$30 per dish. Dinner could be around $100 per person (if you order 3 course). - of course it would be cheaper if you don't order 3 courses :)

I'm not very familiar with the Sofitel Bora Bora, but if it's on the main island, you can take taxi to some of the local restaurants and maybe can save some money there.
