Maybes

Our RSVP deadline was last Thursday, so this weekend I started contacting people.  Some people have responded and said they don't know if they can come yet or not -- they are a maybe.  Seriously?  I don't have to give a final head count to the venue until September 27th but I still need to finish my seating chart and print out all of our escort cards.  I'm not really sure what to tell the maybes.  Any suggestions on how to handle this?

Re: Maybes

  • That is annoying, but your RSVP deadline was a little early.  I would tell them that you need a yes or no by say the 25th.  If you don't get a yes, or hear from them, you will mark them down as a no.  Tough stuff!

  • I would tell them that you need an answer ASAP or at least by the end of the week or you will have to mark them down as a no.  People need to understand that once you submit that final number, that's the number that you're paying for.

  • I do think you made your deadline a bit early for needing final numbers to the venue on the 27th.  For the maybes, tell them "I need a final answer by XX date.  If you don't let me know by then, I'm marking you down as a no."  Do you have to turn in your seating chart and escort cards on the 27th too?  If not, work with the answers you have now and then after your final date has passed, put the others in.

My guess is people are waiting for their work schedules, which they usually get 2 weeks out if they didn't take the day off in advance.
  • HA!  My final count is today, I still have "maybes".  Look at your contract, mine states I have add people until the weed before, but I can't subtract.

  • I would tell them that if you haven't gotten a difinitely answer by say September 25th (to give you a few days to get your seating chart together) then you'll have ot mark them down as not attending.

I will NEVER understand why people do this. Inviations were sent out a long time ago. WTF is with the maybes?

I don't get this either.  I understand if people take until the very end of the rsvp timeline to decide, but if it gets to the deadline and you still don't know, bite the bullet and say no!

  • Thanks ladies!  Maybe it was a little early -- I was trying to give myself enough time to get in touch with people before the final deadline.  This maybe would have to fly across the country to come too -- give me a break that you don't know by now.  Anyway, I will tell her (and anyone else that says they don't know yet) that they have until the 25th or I have to mark them as a no.

  • I don't think your RSVP date was too early.  Most invitations I've received have had the RSVP date be 1 month before the wedding (that's when I set my RSVP date too).

  • Eh, I don't think you're too early. My RSVP date is today for a 10/13 wedding, and I give final numbers around the same time you do. My fiance and I are traveling cross-country for two family weddings for 10 days starting Wednesday, so we made it early in order to have enough time to actually get the cards from our mailbox. You sent invitations with plenty of time, and you have a reasonable expectation of a final answer!

Sorry, I thought a lot of places were on the same sort of timeframe as mine.  I have to get them my numbers about 3 weeks before, so my rsvp date is one month out.  Seeing your ticker, yes I would be more apt to want to know final numbers by 2 wks out!!  Eek!!  :)  Good luck!

  • My RSVP was also a month before my wedding. I'm very glad I did it in that I'm working on tracking people down now. Fortunately I've only had one 'maybe' and it's one of FI's friends. He said he'd give us a final answer today or tomorrow, and if he doesn't FI is going to tell him we need a definite answer this Saturday or he's a 'no'. I get the feeling I may have to leave this message on a few answering machines as well....

I agree.  1 month before is perfectly acceptable (and i thought was the norm).  I set mine at a month before...I certainly did not want to wait until right before the deadline the country club gave me.  What if I have to make a crap load of phone calls?  I refuse to be scrambling at the last minute!!

  • This is especially frustrating knowing that I sent our STD's.  Really? You don't know for sure? BC you have definitely known the date for months now, it's not like it was a surprise when invites were sent out six weeks ago!
