Are you hiring a videographer? Thoughts?

I've convinced myself we need a video, but I'm not willing to go over $1,000. Is that reasonable?

Are you hiring one? What kinds of questions did you ask them (I obviously want to ask for a sample of their work). Should I just say I want a video of the ceremony and then the beginning of the reception?

I'm in Charlotte so if you have any recommendations I'm all ear!

Happy long weekend!

We skipped it, and I don't regret it.  I went into it willing to consider it if it was under $1,000, but I didn't see any quality work I would pay for at that price.

Our DJ brings a camcorder to the reception, so we have some footage.  We've watched it once.

Sorry I'm not much more help!

I initially was not going to do a video but then everyone told me I would regret it. They also said that it goes by so fast and is a blur.  I then decided I wanted a video but it did not have to be fancy or professionally done.  My FH and I talked about looking on craigslist or contacting one of the college's film departments to try and hire a student.  I was planning on going this route since I really just wanted to see the vows and ceremony more than anything.

After all that my FH told me that his uncle had a side business of doing videography and offered to do it for free for us. Ha you would have thought he would have mentioned it earlier.

So I guess it just depends on much you care if it's very high quality.

We're not hiring one for a couple reasons.

When we talked to videographers at bridal shows, they all had a lovely video going, usually set on background music.  We asked, they either didn't have copyright rights to use the music that way, or they dodged our question.  Either response didn't make us feel comfortable.

The other reason is that our church won't allow a video of the service to be made.

    So we're not having one.

I can't imagine NOT having one...it's all personal preference, though.  But for me, I want to be able to look back on it...and I want my kids and their kids to be able to see it.  And I don't want to miss anything that happens that day...especially with the ceremony...and since I'm the last to walk in, I would miss everyone else coming in and what not so I'm having one.  We are using Bay Leaf Video Productions out of Raleigh, but they do travel.  They were one of the cheapest I could find for what I was looking for.  They have some demos on their website and will send you a full copy of a ceremony/reception if you contact them.  I was very impressed with their work, and they are very reasonably priced.  It is a husband/wife team.  I've only met the husband, but I have met him twice now in person and spoke with him numerous times in emails and he has been absolutely wonderful to work with thus far!!!  Best of luck to you!

I am having one. Of the good and reputable ones in Charlotte the cheapest ones I found were for $1,500. I am willing to pay the extra because our company is unlimited time. They say they don't want Brides and Grooms to worry about timing so all their packages are unlimited time. But I'm sure if you talked with them about budget they could get you down to $1,000. We are using Whitney Photography & Video and their work is great!!!

We aren't getting one.  I don't think we would watch it enough to justify the cost.  Plus, I have never really liked how they come out.  I feel like I am watching my high school's video footage of our dances.  To me the most important thing is the photography.  My parents didn't have video when they got married, but looking at the pictures conveys all the emotions that they felt that day.  I didn't need a video to tell me that.

We struggled with whether or not to get a videographer.  Up until a few months before the wedding, we had decided not to have one.  But, then I saw some other brides' films and I loved them.  I knew that I would really regret it if we didn't have a videographer.  We looked around for a while at the cheaper videographers, but we just weren't happy with the quality of the video.  So, we decided to find a great videographer and work it into the budget... we are so happy that we did!

We weren't allowed to have photography during our ceremony, but we could have video, so we decided this would be a good way for us to document the ceremony.  We have watched the film and trailer sooo many times. Our friends and family love it! It was one of the BEST things we did!  Here's our trailer: http://vimeo.com/13944330

    Good luck finding someone!

I wanted one from the beginning but DH didn't. I decided if we spent that much money on something, I wanted it to be something that was important to both of us. Literally a week or so before the wedding DH brought it up & we decided to get one. We signed the contract 4 days before the wedding & never looked back. We're both so glad we got one. The day passes by faster than you can ever imagine & there will be things you miss. It was great to actually be able to watch our ceremony. We also had guest interviews included & it's really nice to have them to look back on. We got extra copies of the video to give to our parents as gifts. It's probably the best WR decision we made during planning.
