We FINALLY have an officiant! I thought it was going to be a relative (some cousin by marriage) who is a pastor. The first quote for him was $100 plus couseling. The $100 is fine, about what I expected, but we cannot feasibly do the counseling with him since he is in Indiana and we live in MA, and FI is not planning to make a trip back with me until the week before the wedding. So then, his wife tells me she was wrong, and it is $200 (and counseling, but that may be optional). I'd still pay the $200, but my mom thought that was kind of pricey.
So anyway, a mom of one of my good friends is an attorney in the town we're getting married in/town I grew up in, and my mom suggested I try her. We're close with her, and I've been friends with her daughter since middle school. She's been a great support in my life, and helped me find an excellent psychologist a couple of years ago when I was going through a difficult time. She's never done a wedding, but she's more than excited to do it! I'm sooo happy! This will mean more to me than the distant relative, as I am much closer to her and her family. She's actually running for judge, and the current judge agreed to make her like, judge for the day, or something? in order to marry us. I forget the technical term. (ETA: Judge Pro Tempore is the term)
Anyway, soooo excited to have that check! I was starting to stress a little. I don't know how much she will charge, but I'm guessing it will be minimal. I'm willing to pay that $200 if needed, though!
So how much does an officiant usually cost? I really am clueless about that, obviously lol
