Origin of marriage sacrament?

Anyone know the history?  When did it come about and why?  I've been doing some googling, but having a hard time getting a clear answer.

I came about in every culture around the world, regardless of religion, most likely for stability purposes.

Adam and Eve, but that was a natural marriage, not a Sacrament.

Sacraments are a sign instituted by Christ to give grace. Marriage is the icon the points us towards the marriage of Christ to His church... Christ performed His first miracle at Canaa, also revealing the power Mary has.
