Wedding Dress?

Who has gotten their wedding dresses already? If you haven't yet when will you? I haven't yet because I'm trying to slim down first, but I'm afraid I'm going to run out of time! When is the latest that you can purchase your dress and still get it on time?

Re: Wedding Dress?

  • It all depends on the dress and the designer.  I ordered mine in July and it came in January.  Some designers take longer.  Other places (David's Bridal comes to mind) had dresses that take less time or where you can buy off the rack.
  • I ordered mine 2 weeks ago and it is supposed to come in the middle of June. From everything I have heard if you are planning on ordering from an actual designer and don't want to pay a rush fee, you need at least 16 weeks for it to come in. I decided that I needed to have mine ordered by the end of Feb to not make myself freak out that it wouldn't come in time, but that is just the control freak in me :)

  • Opposite end of the spectrum: I ordered my dress in May. It came in in October, but was flawed so they had to send it back and have the designer remake it. I just got it a couple weeks ago. It was a 9 month process, but well worth it. So be careful! I think a bridal shop will tell you 6-8 months (don't forget to include alterations). But like pp's have said, David's can be a lot quicker. Have you thought about going with a corset-style dress? That way your weight can fluctuate a little without having to worry that the dress will still fit...

  • I bought a dress that was just made available for ordering that day on Dec. 1st, and it came in today! So it took about 11 weeks. It's an Allure. I almost wish it would have taken longer because now it feels so close yet it it is still 7 months away! However, I picked my dress out on my first ever bridal appt.
  • I bought mine off the rack from David's Bridal in September.

  • Also as mentioned, I did do the corset back because I naturally fluctuate 5 lbs. and I'm all about fit! I couldn't recommend a corset back more! It made me feel so thin in places I wanted that sucker pulled in and still able to breathe. It also will save on alterations.
  • I ordered mine in January and was told that it won't be in until August... YIKES!

  • I haven't ordered mine yet. Actually I haven't gone dress shopping. My mom passed away over two years ago and the prospect of looking for a dress without her depresses me. My FI has urged me to go out and just do it. He doesn't want me wearing a toga on our wedding day. I just made an appointment for Monday and taking his mom with me.

  • Mine's Maggie Sottero bought off the rack.  I think they said 6 months or so otherwise.  It would probably be good to get started!
  • I also have a Maggie Sottero I bought back in July (as part of a Bridal Dress show here in Canada). I'm supposed to get it in April which would make it 9 months. I thought that was a long time but it's nice since I'm able to work out a bit before my first fitting.
  • I ordered mine at David's Bridal in January and they said it would come in at the end of March.  However, I just go a call it came in this week.  My bridesmaids dresses also were ordered at the same time and those are still not in.

  • I ordered mine the first week of September. and she came in the last week of January.  Like pp, I couldn't recommend a corset back more!  I lost weight between ordering and now, and will likely drop a few more pounds before September, and she still fits like a charm.  Fi is never going to get me out of that dress!!!

  • Mine is a Sottero & Midgley and is supposed to take 10 months because of the Spanish lace. I went in December because I figured if have plenty of time and get an early start. Luckily I found it on my first appointment because the sales consultant told me that if I ordered it that day it wouldn't be in until a month before the wedding! So I would recommend you start earlier rather than later. You don't want to fall in love with a dress just to find out it can't be done in time!
