Done with Carnival

Another Carnival cruise ship reported having problems again so FI I decided to cancel our honeymoon cruise we were planning to take in July 2013. We are considering flying to Cancun or Cozumel. Can anyone recommend where to the best resorts are in either city?

Re: Done with Carnival

  • What about cruising with a different line?  Princess, Holland, Celebrity - they all get great reviews.

  • We live in New orleans and would perfer to leave out of new orleans port. The other cruise lines here are not cruising on the dates we need. Otherwise i would just switch cruise lines. Really dissappointed with Carnival. Dont want to risk having our honeymoon ruined because the ship cant sail. Ugh
  • We are cruising on the Carnival Magic for our honeymoon. We are leaving 4-28 for seven days. I think they are getting a lot of bad publicity for something that rarely happens. Think about it. 20 ships, sailing pretty much 24/7 and something like this has happened twice in the last few months. It is just a weird conincidense or like the PP said, someone tampered with the last one.
We gor engaged on a Carnival ship and we loved it. Never had any problems and it was one of their oldest ships. Things can go wrong anywhere, it is just blasted in the media when it is on a ship.
Good luck, I hope you don't cancel your cruise over it, I am sure you will have a great honeymoon either way!
  • Cancun - Secrets The Vine, Le Blanc, and Live Aqua are all great on hotel row.  Secrets Maroma and Iberostar Grand Paraiso are fabulous Riviera Maya choices, a little further out.

  • I like the Sun Palace in Cancun.  It's part of a chain and they have other resorts in Cancun.  The nices of the chain is the LeBlanc.  Check that one out too.  I'm not sure how much more expensive it is.
  • Sandos Caracol in Riviera Maya. Loved it.

With that said... We have sailed Carnival many many times. We were in Hurricane Isaac on a Carnival ship... and they put safety first. We actually got two extra days at sea and an extra port out of our trouble.  Also, our first cruise on Carnival was on the Splendor... you know.... the ship that was stranded off the cost of Mexico a few years ago. We were so terrifed that the boat would be trashed. We sailed on the first week after they refurbished it... and it was a very nice cruise.

What ship are you on? Know that the older ones are probably more risky, but in my opinion, you cant go around waiting for bad things to happen... because you might miss out on something amazing!

    Good Luck!
  • We're going on the Conquest. Any reviews on this ship would be greatly appreciated.
  • I've been on 3 Carnival cruises and never had a problem, as have many of my friends. Really- they own so many other cruise lines too, and considering how many cruises sail- this is just a coincidence. Bad things happen, maybe more so to them because they own so many! I'd wait and see.. I wouldn't cancel based off of the previous ones if it's what you want to do and where you want to go!
