Need your Ohio planning tips!

Hey Ohio brides, I need your planning secrets. Basically, what planning tips would you give to other brides in the area? Maybe where to take great photos in Ohio or a non-chain place in your city for honeymoon lingerie, a great place for a day-after brunch or where to take advantage of local food? Any tips that are unique to your area for brides and grooms. Tell me what’s up. Thanks in advance and have a great week! KA

Most of the MetroParks in Dayton offer great backdrops for photos.  Cox Arboretum, in particular, is always beatiful.

I just started planning but here are a few suggestions...

    Local food - Cincinnati area

Cincinati style chili - skyline, gold star chili, camp washington chili, dixie chili, empress are all great places but locals all have their favorite

    LaRosa's Pizza - several locations

Montgomery Inn - known for their ribs

    Grater's Ice cream

Pictures - Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky

Spring Grove Cemetary - a very beautiful location that is not very well known

Newport on the Levee - Great for pics of Downtown Cincinnati in the background

Eden Park - Cincinnati Art Museum and Krohn Conservetory are both located here

Devou Park - Another location you can get great pics of the cincinnati skyline

I'm having mine done on the University of Cincinnati's Main campus because that is where I met my FI. Smile

PPs have awesome suggestions.  I only have a few more to add.

Pictures:  Ault Park in Hyde Park/Mt. Lookout - there is a beautiful flower and tree garden here that is in full bloom in spring and summer.  The arboretum in Mt. Airy Forest is really pretty as well (that's where we're having our wedding).

Local food:  Busken Bakery.  They don't do wedding cakes, but they have awesome pastries.  My friend from North Carolina came to visit me up here maybe two years ago and fell in love with Busken tea cookies, and so occasionally I send them to her in the mail.

Also, another planning tip.  If you're supplying your own alcohol, check out the Party Source in Newport.  They have a crazy huge selection of beer, wine, and liquor, and the prices are pretty good too.

Day after brunch in Northside at Take the Cake in Northside. A delicious, down to earth place with a changing menu. They always have some variation of meat and eggs, frittatta, quiche, and french toast - and a lot of other things.

Not to mention - they have amazing wedding cupcakes and cakes.....

Something I think a lot of people miss out on is that we have one of the greatest design schools in the country - the University of Cincinnati's DAAP program is one of the best in the country? Why not use a design student to design you some invites - surely a college kid needs the money, plus, they will do it for cheap. Then you get customized invites you can print yourself that looks AWESOME! In addition, the College Conservatory of Music has great musicians and you can hire a guitarist or celloist or other. Why not use all this local talent up - their are boards in the DAAP and CCM buildings to post on. I have also seen ads for someone wanting a custom wedding dress from a fashion design student. I think it is something amazing about our community that we overlook.

There is a ton of local, non-chain food around too. Downtown has a variety of places - a great place for a bachelorette party. Arnold's has amazing, rich food and a lovely history and often life music plays on the weekend. Palomino has a 365 days happy hour and a great view of fountain square. Jeff Ruby's restaurant has one of the most astounding bars in terms of design - it's just amazing to look at - and the drinks are great too. There are so many places to have a good time at, then you can end the night off at late night bagel place Gilpin's which has steamed bagels - a very different taste from toasted - with a variety of toppings. I love the snickerdoodle bagels which come with cream cheese and cinnamon sugar! Yum!
