Mother's Wedding Dress Q

So when my mom was married she got my part of my grandmothers (her moms) wedding dress sewed onto the inside of her wedding dress. Not sure if this is a 'traditional' tradition but I would love to do that to my dress as well. Searched online and can't find any answers so my question is does anyone else do this and if so, is there a specific part of her dress that I should use? Thanks!

Re: Mother's Wedding Dress Q

  • I would post this on your local TX board and ask for recommendations for a good seamstress.

<---------Look to the left in the blue boxes and click Local Wedding boards. Then choose your local TX board. Good luck.
  • Will do. Thanks :) New to all this!

You are welcome. Don't worry about being a newbie, everyone has to start somewhere. And welcome to TK.
  • I'm doing the same thing with my grandmothers dress!
  • That is a really nice family tradition.

  • Ditto that it's a nice tradition and a good seamstress should be able to help you find the best way to incorporate part of the heirloom dress into your gown.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • I think this is a really nice tradition.  I'm doing something similar - I'm taking some of the lace from my mom's gown and giving it to the florist to use to hand tie my bouqet.  I would think a good seamstress could do this for you, or you could ask whoever is altering your wedding gown if they could do it while they were doing your alterations.
  • Thanks! Got in contact from a seamstress my mom knows. I'm so excited. My mom had her wedding dress sealed when she was married over 25 years ago and this is the first time she's opened it. Should be a memory!
