Invites advice please

The next big thing on my checklist is the invites and I am really not sure what to do.  I'm going back and forth between DIY and ordering them.  I'm not sure which would be more cost efficient and less time consuming.  Advice please!

Thank you!

Re: Invites advice please

  • After ordering countless samples, and comtemplating DIY, we ended up going with WeddingPaperDivas.  They have decent quality and are always offering sales or coupons.

  • I think it depends on how much time you have to devote to a DIY project.  From what I've read on the WeddingBee blogs and elsewhere, DIYing invitations can be a pretty huge undertaking.

Personally, I don't have time for all that (plus, I don't own a printer... besides the ones we have at work, and I am NOT printing our wedding invitations at my office, haha), so I had mine custom designed by someone else.  It sure would be fun to go shopping for all different types of paper and things though!

  • I think it really depends upon your talents and time.  With my job, and my lack of artistic talents, I would never dream of DIY.  If you have the skills and time (and desire), I would say go for it.
  • I would say order them. DIY can turn into way more money than if you order them. We went with Vistaprint, they are always having living social deals and coupons. For 80 invites we spent about $20.

  • We had considered DIYing our invites, but then we found a deal through VistaPrint where we had a 50% off bridal items, and an addition 35% off through a VP deals website I found off of google, so for over $300 of stuff we ended up spending under $200 (the 85% was off each individual item not the whole order) and it saved us hours of DIY time (not to mention trying to design the invites ourselves)!!  I'd say if you can find a good deal at a printing place in LA (or a deal off of VistaPrint or 123print or another reputable site) to go with that vs DIY! :)

  • I would start by figuring out your budget. Then decide how much time you have. My budget wouldn't allow me to get exactly what I want done for me so I'm having a girl on etsy design them and I'm putting it all together. This works for me because I get to spend the money I would have paid someone else to put them together on higher quality paper and I have time (after finals) to put it all together.

If you do decide to DIY there are a lot of places online where you can get templates or people on etsy to design them for next to nothing if you're not particularly creative- like me :) Also, cardsandpockets.com and paperandmore.com have pretty good prices on paper, envelopes, and other supplies.

    HTH! Good Luck!

  • We ordered panel pockets from cards and pockets and had a local print shop design, print, and cut out the invites and inserts. We will have to assemble all of the pieces. I'll try to post the final cost/product when we get them done next weekend, but we are going to be around $100 for 85 invites, 4 inserts each, and 100 envelopes (does not include postage).
  • Agree with everyone who says VistaPrint especially if you can get a livingsocial/groupon deal with it (that usually gets posted on one of these boards).  I have all of my invites plus reply cards and envelopes for $59.

  • We were going to DIY invites as well. I was all prepared to do them, and then the style i wanted didn't work on the invite (White lettering won't work at home printers.) So, I started researching sites like vistaprint and 123print, and found that I can get the same types of invites I was going to make for less than what I was going to need to pay to DIY. So, I say order them from my experience.
