Hey girls..

So, I thought I had this venue situation all figured out. We were looking at Tashua Knolls in Trumbull. Now, however, I'm having second thoughts. The layout is a little weird... the dance floor is in a strange place... not sure where we'd put a head table... etc.

Anyone have any advice on affordable venues near New Haven County (we are marrying in West Haven FCC).. we are trying to keep it under $80 a head, on a sunday. Thought about Amarante's, Omni Hotel and Grassy Hill Lodge.

Any other ideas/thoughts? Anyone have experience with those venues? I  just want the space to be big enough for 200 (I know.. it's kind of a lot..) comfortably and a nice layout!!!

    I work at the Omni! So I'm a little biased but our chef is awesome. But I have heard really good things about amarantes and grassy hill.

    I'm having my wedding at Grassy Hill!!  Unless your wedding is in the off season you will not keep it at undeer $80 per head amarantes (I have menu info from amarantes if you want it PM me you email address).  I'm not sure about prices at the omni but my sister dates one of the chefs there and she never even suggested looking there so I'm guessing she knew it was out my budget (I was looking at under $100pp) and then her boyfriend would probably end up working our wedding which would suck!  We are having ceremony and reception at grassy hill.  we added butler passed hos d'oeuvers to our cocktail hour.  all their prices already included tax (i also have that menu if you'd like it) and by adding the hos d'oeuvers we are looking at about $90pp.  if you don't do any add ons you are looking at anywhere from $78pp to $90pp depending on the 3 meals you select (chicken is less expensive than the surf and turf for example).  cake is included in the package.  if you want any other info let me know!!

    Hi there,
    I have been to a Jack and Jill at Tashua Knolls which was great but I know what you mean about the layout.

    My first wedding was at Grassy Hill CC in 2003 before they redid the place. I have no idea what prices are like now but it was very nice. I have been to a wedding at Grassy Hill Lodge and that was also nice.

    I looked into the Omni for my wedding next March and the prices started at $80 I believe for a Saturday. My concern with that was having to pay for parking.

    I contacted Amarantes as well and their pricing for March was great.  I ended up deciding on Fox Hill Inn in Brookfield.

    Whtara... do you have any idea about prices? I was thinking it'd be expensive.. but it's hard to find pricing info for them.

    I loved the grassy hill lodge, but to stay under 80 per head will be hard to do, especially since chicken is the only entree under 80. The venue is beautiful though. thanks for all your help girls!

    I'm having my wedding at Amarante's this May in the Grand Ballroom which has the dance floor in the middle of the room and can fit over 200 people. It's best to contact them directly about pricing because they do have better deals in the off-season and for Sunday nights and they can be flexible about the room minimums depending on the day of the reception as well as day vs night.

    We are getting married at Fantasia in North Haven for $85/pp after all taxes and gratuity but that's also for a Saturday night. They have better prices for Sunday weddings. The food is delicious, it can fit 200 people and the ladies are great to work with!

    I'm also getting married at Amarante's..Definitely set up an appointment with Peter because they will give amazing deals WELL under 80pp for the Grand Ballroom on a Sunday. Also, besides price, think about the style of wedding you want. Amarante's is a little more laid back whereas the Omni seems to be more glamourous (I know thats not a great word but I can't think of anything without making Amarante's seem bad, which it isnt because it is absolutely perfect for my wedding).

    We looked at Tashua Knolls and had a similar feeling about the set-up, it being on municipal grounds, no separate indoor cocktail area if it rained, etc. They also didn't do a real tasting, just said you could come to a wedding and sit int he club bar and they would bring you appetizer samples. We went to Grassy Hill CC instead and booked there. You might be able to get that at GHCC on a Sunday, ours was probably $80 a head before tax and gratuity, with a minimum of 175 for a Saturday night in June.

    You could also look into Woodwinds and the New Haven Lawn club (not sure on the pricing though)

    I'm getting married at the Colonial Tavern in Oxford, I'm not sure of your style but it's more of a country setting with wood floors and wood vaulted ceilings with fireplaces. It's perfect for a fall wedding which is one of the reasons why I chose it. 
    The prices are also great and the owner was completely willing to work with in our budget! We are doing a buffet dinner with carving station and it will be about 54-60$ a head. And this price is for on season and Saturday night wedding. 
    There is a place to get married outside just like Tashua knolls!

    im getting married at oronoque country club in stratford its reasonably priced and they give 10percent off for having a sunday wedding. its a rustic setting ona golf course.. the food at the tasting was delicious

    We're getting married at Bill Millers Castle in Branford. Our package was $85 pp with everything included except the cake. You could do a buffet from around $65 pp...open bar and everything included! It's a LOT of fun at that place and Cherri is great to work with. I cannot wait for our wedding! I don't think Sunday is any cheaper, because they don't have any issues booking at full price, but they do lower their minimums.

    We're getting married in March at The Gershon Fox Room in Hartford in March 2013 on a Sun. for $75 pp and includes everything. We also looked at The Riverview In Simsbury on a Sun during off season and it was $65 pp.
