Growing your own flowers

Hello!
I was just wanting to get some feedback on growing your own flowers for your wedding instead of buying from a florist or using silk.
I am getting married in July, having just recently gotten engaged. :) I have 4 months to plan the whole wedding, while on a pretty tight budget. ($2000-$2500 for everything including dresses. I have 8 attendants.) I prefer real flowers to silk, but buying from a florist is out of the question, because of the tight budget. And since it will be a summer wedding, with an outdoor reception, I think real flowers would fit better.
Has anyone done this who can give me some tips?

Thank you!

it's a lot more work than you think... that's for sure!
Do you have gardener friends or farmers markets in the area?
Are you a gardener already, would Dad or grandma or somebody help you too..

the ones that are easiest are zinnias, sunflowers ans bachelors buttons.
how are the ditch flowers down there in july?  maybe queen annes lace and goldenrod will be in bloom then... good cheap fillers...

One thing I do know is in high season wholesale for july are mixed roes.  You might be able to get a wholesale mixed box sent right to you in the mail for less than $200 .. then you would have plenty to work with.

good luck..more questions than answers i realize, sorry...

    Thank you!
I am not a gardener per se, but I do know how to grow flowers. :) But thank you for your suggestion of wholesale flowers. I do want roses, so waiting until the week of and then just buying the flowers and doing my own arrangements is a definiate option. :)

I think once you figure the cost of supplies and your time, it would be cheaper to buy flowers. And you never know what the weather will do, so your flowers may die even if you're a master gardener. You can check out your local farm market, cut flower farms, Costco or florist for loose flowers and do something simple yourself. Often florists will give you a better price if you place your order in advance and buy a larger quantity of flowers. Or you could buy online. I've seen good reviews for fiftyflowers.com on TK, but have not actually ordered from them myself.

If you are an avid gardner, already have supplies, and have successfully grown massive quanities of good quality flower in the past, then go for it.

But have a good back up plan, such as buying in bulk.  Buying in bulk can be very cost effective, and no labor involved until they are delivered.  Home grown flowers are not of the same "sturdiness" as commercially grown flowers and not a sure thing.

I've done flowers for several medium sized weddings, bought in bulk or wholesale, and the total cost for flowers and supplies was in the $200-250 range.
