Just Engaged and Proposals

Ring advice

Arghh I need some advice please! I just got engaged 3 weeks ago after waiting 10 years, YAY!
I had a ring picked out made by a small artisan designer. I fell in LOVE with the setting as soon as I saw it a year ago and nothing has ever compared! Luckily he proposed with this setting (double YAY) It is a rose gold setting made from a REAL willow twig. (I am kinda a hippy) We talked about stones and I never really cared much about the details I just wanted that setting.
A few months before he proposed we saw that the designer was offering moissanite, money isnt really an issue but I didnt want him to get into debt and as a tree hugger the no-conflict thing apealed to me. (Not bashing diamonds AT ALL! Read on....) So I told him we might as well get me a big stone! So he proposed with a 6.5mm moissanite (equals aprox. 1 carat) It is beautiful!

It is also slightly GIANT on my wee little hands. Everyone who see's it comments on how huge it is. I feel it is taking away from the point of the ring...The twig setting.
Another issue with such a large stone is, as a small artist the designer generally works with half carats and this was her first time using a stone this size. She didnt really consider the following:

So yeah the apex of the stone is scratching at my finger! :( Really I have a big sore now! The artist said she can exchange it for a half carat and she is so sweet and accomidating. We absolutly love her but still wanted other opinions. I took it to a local jeweler who said they could try to alter it but I dont know. This is the band I fell in love with and I am leery about anyone altering it. I also have been thinking about wedding bands....with this size of stone there is not much I can get done (I am an acupuncturist and work with my hands and patients all day so I dont want to add to the size at all) With the .5 the artist offers the following matching band (its unfinished)

Loving this together! Perhaps rose gold ering and white gold band? Anywho. Thats not the point.... Should I go down to a .5? or should I see if someone here (Canada, the artist is in US) can fix it? Also if we go down to a .5 FI wants to get a diamond as he wants my ring to have a certain amount of worth behind it (he is a snob, dont hate) So I will have to compromise and try to get the most conflict free diamond possible. Thanks for any suggestions!

Dont know why underline is stuck.... ahhhh....

  • I like it with the .5, I feel like you can see the artwork better =)
  • I love the setting, and I love the rose gold!

I like the size of the .5 in your setting - to me it seems it doesnt matter to you weather it's a real diamond or not. If you do decide on a real diamond, there are many non-conflict options. Canadian diamonds are guaranteed no conflict if you dont want to take the time to do the research on other sources. I love that my diamonds came from my country and that I didnt add to the blood shed...but like you said Im also not a harper and would never judge anyone's choice.

  • I would go with either 0.5 caret option.  I have a half in my ring, and it's an antique (FH's great grandma's) so it really shows off the architecture of the ring itself.  I think that you will find that it's the same for your *super gorgeous* ring!
