When I went to David's Bridal to try on wedding dresses... they just generally felt "cheap"... the fabric seemed like such a lower quality than some of the other "designer" gowns I tried .. even though their pricing wasn't much different. I tried on some Mori Lees, Alfred Angelos, Casablancas. All under $1000.00, but most in the $600-800 range.

But, for BM dresses, David's seemed to be the easist solution. Tons of dresses in the color I wanted, and easy for my BMs's to buy their dresses in different cities.   So, fast forward... we go to pick up one of my BM's dresses a few weeks ago, and it is missing the hook for the hook/eye on the back, the stitching all over the dress and in the rouching is loose and it looks like little pinholes in many spots, which are very visible in a burgundy satin dress! They say they will "fix" the dress in alterations... and the pinholes will not show once the dress is steamed.

So, we go back last night to pick up the "repaired" dress... the hook is fixed, but the stitching looks like its been done with a staple gun ! And the little pinholes are WORSE. It looks like they added MORE holes.

After bitching at them for 30 minutes, they agree to order another dress instead of sending this one back AGAIN to the alterations dept to "fix".

I am SO glad I didn't buy my wedding dress there!    Such crummy quality.

I don't know if the quality has gone down... but, for the wedding gowns... they just felt cheap compared to the other gowns I tried on. But, this situation with this BM dress is ridiculous !

Their alterations department is notoriously bad, I don't think I've ever seen anyone recommend them.

As for the quality, it depends on the dress, fabric, style, etc. I bought my dress from DB and I absolutely loved it. I did try on some during the process that I wasn't crazy about the quality of it, but I think it had more to do with the fabric and style more so than the actual construction of the gown.

I agree. The quality has gone WAY down in there dresses. Even their bridesmaids dresses that are Satin are becoming bad quality because they do not hire seemstresses that know how to properly work on the material.

One of the girls hooks fell off when she took it out the bag, another girls zipper completely split! right before we walked down the alise! and it wasnt because it was to small of a dress it was just a cheep zipper. My mom gave me a bunch of extra hooks and the right color thred and needles to take to the wedding so we could repair all damages that happen through out the night. </div><div>Horriable experiance with them. I had a horrible dress experience at DB. Against my better judgement I agreed to go shopping there for my MOB and MOG dresses. Both of them found dresses and to my surprise I found an RD dress. Well to make a long story short when they came in my mom's had a hole in her ass and the zipper was ripped on mine. I freaked out. After arguing back and fourth they agreed to order new ones. I will never go there again. I do agree though about the quality. Compared to my grandma's dress ($80 on clearance at Macy's) the DB dresses were cheap and paper thin.

I totally agree about their wedding dresses being horribly cheap compared other designer dresses that aren't much more expensive. it was night and day difference for me. I don't know why so many girls still get their dresses there. They must not go anywhere else! lol.

I ordered my backup dress from David's Bridal online. I didn't see anything wrong with it. It's a tulle ballgown so maybe it depends on the fabric you get?

I do think it depends on the fabric... and also, if you have tried on others in the same fabric. I looked at satin, lace, chiffon and tule at both DB and in designer gowns... and as mentioned, the designers I was looking at weren't particularly pricey... and they were still leaps and bounds better than any of the fabric I tried at DB.

The tule was probably the least noticable, because its so poofy anyway... but, the others were stiff and almost scratchy. I couldn't believe how bad the chiffon was compared to the Mori Lee I ended up buying. I was actually a little shocked at how dramatic the difference was.

I was engaged several years back (never married) and had purchased an wedding gown from Davids Bridal but after my experience and their horrible customer service I vowed I would never go back to them again. Thankfully I was able to easily sell my gown on Craigslist.

This time around I purchased an gown from Demetrios and couldn't be more happy!

Well, to each their own, I suppose. Frankly, I love my dress I got from DB. It's an organza and tulle Oleg Cassini that I was able to purchase off the rack for less than $500. And their customer service was great, although I do think customer service in a chain store is a fairly inconsistent thing regardless. It is a shame you had such a terrible experience, though.

It's sucky to hear that you had a bad experience.
DB was really great to me and able to track down my dream dress that had been dicontinued for quite some time. My BM dresses are great and I've had no problems with alterations.

It odd that this kind of thing come from a chain store, I could see if it was franchaised....

I have had a good experience with DB. I love the BM dress and it was easy to order and all the dresses look well sewn and have fit well. I understand service can change from store to store but I did shy away from them after hearing some stories. I did decide to give my local DB a try because my daughter had found dresses that fit her and she liked for Prom over the last few years.

I bought my gown from there and had no problems.

They are known for bad seamstresses though.

My mom was remarried last year, I bought my dress but had it altered by a seamstress in my townn because I was so scared of having a headache like that! Plus it cost me 1/2 the price!

Sorry about what has happened. I do agree that their quailty depends on what you are buying. My prom dress was from DB and it was kinda cheaply made, I have seen people using it as a bridesmaid dresses though. I got a Vera Wang Dress and was very happy with it. As for my BMs I also went to DB, and the satin dresses did look a little iffy so that was a no go, but I was able to find something I liked. Best of luck to everyone!!!
