Major Break Out !!

My skin always used to be somewhat clear until I used this Clean n Clear cleanser with salicyal acid and started breaking out like crazy.  I'm not sure if it's making my skin produce more oil or it is just bringing the impurities up to the surface, but what should I use to clear the pimples up???  They are small-medium red bumps.. .not big whiteheads.

Re: Major Break Out !!

  • You may want to try visiting a dermatologist if you have regular break outs with different products. You can take your cleanser in, and your dermatologist may be able to identify what may trigger the breakout, and they can also recommend a cleanser that will work for you, or maybe prescribe something.
I am bff with my dermatologist since I've had acne issue my entire life.
  • I've used it all, and sometimes certain products make skin break out. I've heard lovely things about Ceataphil facewash. But, I agree wiht Cwaggoner, go to your derm to get real answers so you know what products to stay away from in the future.

  • I use Cetaphil! Clean n clear always breaks me out.
  • I've had acne issues and extremely oily skin most of my life. I've tried everything you can get without a doctor - from the drugstore stuff to Proactiv and other stuff you have to order. But the best thing I ever did for myself is buy a Clarisonic. It's a brush to wash your face and it's amazing. Yes, it's pretty expensive but it literally changed my skin. My skin is clearer and less oily with it regardless of what I facial wash I use. They have different sizes and are usually $150 - $225 but it's totally worth it. Actually the smaller "travel" one is the Today's Special Value on QVC today - $125.

I promise I'm not a Clarisonic or QVC salesperson - I honestly just freaking love this thing. :)

I completely agree. I always had mild acne (constantly for at least the last 8-10 years) but I got a clarisonic Mia in back in august and my skin has been very well behaved ever since! I use neutrogena anti wrinkle anti blemish cleanser and their rapid wrinkle repair retinol lotion. I think the constant exfoliation helps a lot! Plus that clarisonic thing forces you to really deep clean your face. It's awesome.
  • Anything with salacylic acid tends to make my skin worse before it gets better. I've had mild but persistant acne issues for a while, so my dermatologist and I are pretty close haha. She recommended using the acid wash only at night when I won't be putting makeup on top of it, and a mild exfoliant face wash in the morning to get rid of dead skin and impurities brought to the surface overnight.

If it's irritating you skin, stop immediately. If you're just noticing more pimples, stick with it for a week or so and see if it gets better. Consistancy is usually the answer with skin problems.
