Photog turned Blushing Bride! :)

Hey brides out there! I'm starting my wedding planning process!! Just got engaged yesterday to my fiance, B. Very pumped about it all. What do you think is the best thing to do first?

I work in the Wedding industry as a Wedding Photographer and am obsessed with the industry but am so excited to be on the other side of the planning! Dress first or Venues? Thoughts?! Thanks Brides!!Smile

Welcome & congrats! The MN girls are really friendly!

The first thing to do would be to set a budget. This will help determine everything you buy. The Knot has a decent budget tool that is a good start (though I think that some of its allotted $ amounts are crazy high).
After that, decide what feel/theme/look you are going for and look for venues that will match it and your budget. The venue you choose may narrow your list of options for food, so it is best to choose it before other details. Hope this helps you!

haha Lauren I'm glad you made it over as a Bride :) Are you guys going to use St Thomas Chapel/Cathedral for your ceremony?

In addition to setting a budget - getting an idea of a Guest List is crucial! Once you know that # or Range it will help narrow down or open up a lot of venues.

    Welcome!

I would for sure start with the guest list first, because that really, REALLY limited where we could have our wedding.  We really only had one choice for our venue, but thankfully it would have been my first choice anyways.

Thankfully, being in the business, you've probably seen a lot of things that worked and don't. :)

FYI. I removed the name of your photo company.  Please note that vendors are not allowed on the boards.  You can post as a bride, but you may not advertise at all.  You really shouldn't ever mention you are a vendor at all.

That being said. Congrats! and Welcome!  Definitely ask away any questions you have.  I agree with PPs, definitely start with a guest list.  That will determine your budget more than anything else, and will help narrow down venues, etc.

Woops! Didn't know I couldn't say my biz name on here! LOL. My bad. Anyway - thanks ladies for the opinions. Luckily I've been around a ton of weddings to know what works and not... but I think we are pretty much set.

We actually moved our date up today! Just too excited I guess! HAHA. October 8th it is.... now to find the reception hall....

Lauren- Indoor I assume for Oct? Style in Mind? Modern/Traditional/etc.

Steph has a link to the Mpls Bio (in her siggy) where they list vendors by topic/category. Which I would recommend checking out.

You know our reception is in St. Cloud but as for metro area the Profile Event Center gets TONS of rave reviews.  (If you search for 'PEC' in Current Board at the bottom of the page - you should be able to connect to past PEC brides-- check out their BIOs for pictures)
I would also recommend starting a new thread asking girls where they recommend.

Have you checked out Earle Brown?

I read in your other post that you wanted something rustic. Earle Brown has that look but it's in the middle of a whole bunch of buildings...and a hotel!

Thanks ladies! I've photographed at all the above locations. Earle brown we have considered for sure... a great friend did hers tho so I'm wondering about maybe doing a different one.

Our theme will be woodsy/outdoor-brought-indoor. Twigs, moss, fun stuff like that. Looking more modern, I guess. 320 guests.

Got our ceremony site done!!! :) Wedding Shoppe tomorrow!!! :D
