Dress Dilemma!

Originally we had planned for a beach destination wedding...  so that was what I had in mind the whole time I was dress shopping, and when I bought my dress.  I passed up ones that I wanted more because of trains, and weight of them, and I bought a really simple, light more beach type dress (which really is pretty but...).

Because of issues with the budget we wanted to stay in, and problems in general with where we were trying to book everything in Florida... we decided to get married here.

We went this week and looked at about 6 venues and found ours (YAY!)!

Now that I've been sitting here thinking about it, the dress is SO wrong for where we are getting married....  which is a HUGE, elegant, absolutely gorgeous country club (Seville in Gilbert) with awesome architecture, and an amazing atmosphere.

I really am starting to feel like my dress will just be swallowed there...  it's not the right style, not "big" enough for the venue at all.   I've been trying so hard not to push the budget on things, but now I want a new dress!   Ugh.

I'm even looking through some of the pre-owned dress ads, but how do I know if they will look good on ME, and not just in pictures?   My poor FI will want to strangle me if I end up buying another dress and not being happy with that one either!  LOL

Any ideas?!

Some people will let you try on dresses before you purchase, so it wouldn't hurt to ask. Could you go to a store and try on dresses to see what style fits you best? That might help narrow down your choices as you're looking at ads. Or you can try to find a dress that you like and then see if you can find it on Craigslist or something. Sorry, those are the only ideas I have. Good luck with finding another dress!

I would contact Almond Tree.  It is a consignment store.  Who knows, they may offer to buy yours and you may be able to find a new one for a great deal through them.

You may be able to sell your first dress to offset the cost. My friend did the same thing and now we just laugh it off. You need to feel good about how you look on your wedding day, so don't be afraid of looking for a new dress if that's waht you really want. I've heard Almond Tree is amazing! Good luck!

Almond tree looks interesting...  I might have to see if I can not  get lost and check it out.  LOL
I actually think I found a dress that would be perfect... on a pre-owned site, but I'm so scared of spending the money on it and then it not fitting well enough or looking how I think it will by pictures.  I really don't want to be starting my own consignment store here, you know?  Haha!

Almond Tree is amazing!  I just came from there!!!  It was great.  They were so helpful, I was the only one there and they were so helpful.  They have amazing gowns.  Not super cheap....but you can get big name designers for "cheap".  I would HIGHLY recommend it. However, if you put your first gown on consignment, they only give you 50% of the sale because I just put a gown on consignment there.  I am going back to purchase my dress there.  Bottom line I had an amazing experience and there are some pretty amazing gowns there!   Definitely worth a look!

I don't think so...  not in any significant way.  It's a pretty simple and inexpensive dress.

I am going to go ahead and buy the pre-owned one that I found the ad for...  it has all the elements I wanted had I been looking for a more formal type dress.  She's also throwing in the veil that matches it perfectly (and is WAY nicer than my Davids Bridal one) for $60, so that's awesome.  I'm pretty nervous about buying it online and not being able to see it, but I tried on about 5 that were very close in style and they suited me well.... so we'll see what happens!

All I can say is my FI is so awesome...  I talked to him about it, and he just said, ok, we'll figure out a way to fix it.  Then when he ok'd the price and everything for me to get the one I found, he says,  "is all right with the world again?".  Told him I will let him know when I get to try it on!  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif" border="0" alt="Laughing" title="Laughing" />

He puts up with my craziness so well.   LOL

Yeah, I looked up their consignment policy...  I think I'm better off trying to just sell it on ebay or something and see what happens.   It's only a $250 or so dress, so I won't get much back out of it, but the one I found I'm getting for $300, and it's a $850 dress.

I don't have issues with the fact that someone else wore it for a day, so I'm good with that price for sure!    I'll be happy if I can get like $200 back from the original dress and veil together...  and hopefully it works well for someone else.

Well just know I tried selling my dress on ebay AND craigslist.  Ebay is a waste of time.  You have to pay to sell it there and it only lets you post it for like 10 days.  It was more of a hassle than anything else.  And I got no inquiries.  Craigslist is an even bigger joke!  I got SCAMMED on Craigslist trying to sell my dress.  It was such a hassle!  So I've been there done that! lol.  I'm happy it's on consignment....more of a piece of mind.  Just some thoughts.

Yeah, I'm not too sure on the whole ebay thing...  I figured maybe they charged for selling.

How did you get scammed on CL?  That's crazy!

Maybe I'll just try to post it here on the Trash to Treasure board and see what happens.  LOL

I had my dress posted for 450 and a buyer contacted me and wanted it shipped to North Carolina.  Said check was in the mail.  I got it and the check was made out for 1300 dollars and from some oil rigging place in Texas.  Well I called them and they said some person is going around using their account number and giving out these bogus checks that if I would have put in my account the scammer would have gotten the 1300 from me!  OH NO.  So at least I was smart about it and noticed something didn't seem right.  And I don't think shipping was going to be 800 dollars. Geesh!
