Engagment Ring insurance!? HELP

I was wondering if there is a private insurance company that offers jewelry insurance.
I'm recently engaged and I am aware my parents can put a rider on their insurance but we didn't really want to do that.
I heard some other insurance companies offer a policy for jewelry if this is true please share with me!

THANKS

I still can't stop smiling... I was proposed to two days ago :)

Re: Engagment Ring insurance!? HELP

  • I think we used Jewelers Mutual, you can find it online.  It was only about $30 for one year and protected against basically everything.  If you or your FI own a home, you can just add it to one of your home insurance policies as well.

    Congrats on your engagement!

  • Do you have renter's or car insurance?  Usually companies can just put a rider on either of those policies.  You don't have to go through your parents.

We have State Farm renter's and car insurance and just added it on to that.  It's only $30ish a year.

  • We have condo insurance and car insurance and added a rider for the jewelry.
Its not expensive at all. Make sure, though, that it covers ALL types of losses, not just theft. you want to be sure it covers the stones and the setting in case you lose them.

  • The same question was posed on the Chit Chat board recently, so you could look over there and see what others had to say about private jewelery insurers and using riders (what other people found helpful to know or look into).  We went with Jeweler's Mutual too, it seems to be all inclusive and I won't forget to carry it over when we move from our current home.  Congratulations!!!
  • We used Jewelers Mututal. I didn't want to add it to our homeowners, because if I lose or damage the ring, I do not want it to affect our homeowners insurance premiums.

  • our renters insurance covers all jewlery as well so it actually didn't cost us anything more to add it to the policy. i already had a bunch of my jewlery on there, so i just added one more. although we have a slightly higher policy amount due to the rediculous number of gadgets that we have so that's why it wasn't extra.
  • Sometimes jewelers themselves will give you insurance, but it only covers certain things and usually there are stipulations, like you have to get your ring inspected by them every 6 months or something like that. I suggest adding it to your insurance policies if you have one, otherwise add it to your parents if you have to. Just make sure you get it insured!!!
  • Jeweler's Mutual was sooo easy.  Their website is www.insureyourjewelry.com. I was going to add it to my state farm policy since I have everything together already but my mom advised against it just like Kristinanddan said it could affect your premiums on your house/car if something happens to your ring.
  • My fiance and I got insurance through the jewelry store my ring is from, but it only covers like broken prongs and fittings. I don't even see how it is insurance. They won't replace the ring or diamond if it is lost or stolen. We just got it in case something broke.

How much should your ring cost before you consider putting it on insurance? Mine was only 2000.
  • I'd recommend jewelers mutual. A few friends have used it and they seem to be very good! Congrats on your engagement!
