have you ever done weight watchers?

I just joined WW and am so confused! i cook ALOT at home but cant figure out how to calculate what i cook into points. when i try to do it online the points it tells me seem abnormally high, and i dont think its taking into consideration if im using low-fat, fat free, whole wheat etc ingredients

any advice?

Re: have you ever done weight watchers?

  • I've been on Weightwatchers for awhile. Welcome!!!!

For homemade meals, the easiest way to calculate is to put in the various ingredients separately.  Start measuring your food, so that you can input an accurate amount of what you are eating. You can add the specifics (like whole wheat, low-fat, etc.) on each individual item as you add it to your daily log.  And don't forget to add EVERYTHING you eat  (and drink) to the daily log.

For example, if you make chicken parmesan (my favorite), you can look it up as a meal and find the points. But, it would be better to add it separately
    4 oz of grilled chicken
    1 cup of tomato sauce
3 oz.  low fat mozzarella cheese
    1 cup  whole wheat spaghetti

If the totals still seem high, you may have to re-think the portions of food that you are eating. Most of us, eat MUCH bigger portions than are recommended (thus, we need WeightWatchers! lol)

Good Luck! It is NOT easy, but it Works!

  • grrr.... but what if i made a giant dish of something? Like today my making a zucchini bake. the veggies are zero points, but the recipes calls for about 3 cups of cheese.....how would i calculate that once it time to eat? i dont know how many oz of cheese will be on my plate!

Hmmmm, then I  think you have to start calculating the Proportion of the total dish.

3 cups  (24 ounces) of cheese went into the total  dish. You put a portion on your plate that is 1/8 of the total dish.  So you ate  approx. 3 oz. of cheese.  It won't be exact, but it should average out pretty well.  (OMG, this sounds like a   Math homework assignment! )Undecided

  • hey hun.. I've tried it a few times before.. but like missqueens said you must track everything you eat.. even if you don't want to.. sometimes the point count is not as bad as you may think. They also have good recipe ideas.. Ok, so to track your mean you may want to create a recipe (i think that's on recipe builder), and then add that recipe to your daily tracker and track the  portion size, ex. 2 cups, etc.. I hope i didn't confuse you and i hope this helps.

  • Yes as others have said put it all in the receipe builder.  Then you will have to think about how many servings the dish will be and enter that.  How many cups per serving.  Once you find out the info on the dish you can also break the dish down into containers.  You know this container is 6 pts and so on.  Also it can be help full to put point values on boxes so you wont have to look it up each time.

When I did WW I lost 30 lbs.  I used to be able look at the lable and know how many points something is without using a caculator, but you can't do that with the new version of WW.
