Late October Wedding

Anyone else having a wedding in mid to late October? Preferablya  reception outside and around 3? I posted a post already in Reception Ideas, but need more help.

I am trying to get everything I need down that I have to rent, and I am still debating on lighting. Our outside area for the reception doesn't have any lighting in it what so ever.
I didn't think I would need lights, one it will in the late afternoon, two I just didn't think it
would get dark so early. Some of the other Knotties suggested maybe I should get some lighting because of weather.

Maybe if I gave my timeline of events, y'all could help me figure it out a little more?

From 12-2pm I'll be getting ready.
          2:30-3pm- Ceremony?
          3:15-7pm Reception?
          Somewhere in between pictures... .
We would leave around 7 and that gives time for clean up before our time is up at the venue. . . So all in all do I really need some lighting?

I have a picture of the reception area

  • I am having mine on Oct 20th, but just the ceremony is outside.  You can find out the exact sunset time for your area, but on our day it's about 6:10....dusk will leave it a little light after that, but I think you should rent lights.....or at least have centerpieces with candles or something.  Are you having a DJ because they usually have lighting.
I also assume you are preparing for tent rental in case of rain or anything, right?  I'm also going to assume your venue doesn't have anything, so I appologize if the list seems like too much:

Chairs (for ceremony seating & tables....or planning for someone to move them)
    Tables for guests
    Sweetheart table??
    Cake table
Probably at least two other tables for guest book and cards/gifts
    tents
dance floor? in case the hardscape needs protected

  • Your sunset says 6:57: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/sunrise.html. I think you probably should get lighting. The paper lanterns look like a good option.

Also, even if your guests don't need to see the people cleaning up will have to.

Has your caterer worked your venue before?  Ours is handling all of our rentals. See if they have any advice, or ask the reception location.

Yeap, we are :) never thought about that! Think renting a tent has been the first thing on my list since we booked our Venue lol

Here is my idea for centerpieces . . .

    <a href="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/images/store/3/0/c31c3317-0253-49ef-b094-749a2c1906de.large.jpg" title="Click to view a larger photo" class="PhotoLink"> <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/images/store/3/0/c31c3317-0253-49ef-b094-749a2c1906de.medium.jpg" alt="" /></a>
Thinking about the tree branches with voltives???
My original idea was to take the bouquets and stick them in the top of pumpkins that have been cleaned out. . . I didn't like it.

Chairs and tables I have for the ceremony
We are going to have a head table consisting of FI & I, MOH +1 BM +1
For our cake, guestbook and other things of the sort the Venue actually has those. I might have to rent a table for out Sand Ceremony... We didn't want to do a candel.wasn't sure if it would stay lit outside.
Hadn't thought about dance floor, though. . .

Your list is great! I am running around like a chicken with my head cut off and need little reminders! Thank you any more suggestion just through them right out there!

I don't know why I didn't think of looking up sunset time! I liked the idea of the lanterns too, They just looked kind of scarce strung along out there. Our cater hasn't work it yet, this wlll be their very first time.

  • Definitely look up the sunset time. You whole day should almost be based on that. My timeline is in the Timeline sticky on the top of the post board. We are getting married at 4pm on Oct 20th. Hope that helps.

  • Another vote in favor of lighting. I've been scanning the boards to see if anyone else posted about it, actually.

We're having an outside ceremony on 10/19 (sunset @6:09pm). I've been watching the weather for the past two weeks: 30 minutes before sunset is still quite bright *if the weather is nice* and will stay decently lit until 20-30 minutes past sunset. Today, however, it's cloudy and so got darker much earlier.

You're going until an hour after sunset and then still need time to cleanup, If it were me, I'd definitely get lighting.
