I'm sorry you had to go through the difficult process of canceling your wedding.  I'm sure that was no an easy thing to do.  With that said, I fail to see how this should become the photographer's problem.  No one forced you to sign the contract.  And it's not like he purposely didn't rebook that date.  I'm sure he'd rather get several thousands of dollars by working that day instead of just your $1,000.  Also, he clearly made the effort to try and book the date.  You posted here telling people and so did Ooodsie after HE told her about the cancellation.

What specifically did the contract say about the return of the deposit?  Did he break those terms?  By signing the contract, you agreed to those terms and unless he broke those terms, there's not really a lot you can blame him for.

Grande- not sure what happened to your post- can you repost it?
Even if there is nothing that can be done in your case and I am not sure of the specifics- it sounds like it would be good for the brides to be to hear the story so they know what to look for in their contracts or things to consider before/during negotiations. Best of luck to you!

I think she deleted her post on purpose.  Basically, she signed a contract with Mike Landis but then had to call off the wedding more than a year in advance.  Mike told her that if he could rebook the date with another couple that he'd refund the $1000 deposit they put down.  He never rebooked the date and she didn't get her money back.

oh- thanks! Yeah,  I guess there is nothing really to be learned then. I think all the vendor contracts state that they do not refund deposits and I can't imagine that any would entertain changing those terms!
Sucks though that the date wasn't rebooked with a year's notice but its not the vendor's fault.
Sorry Grande that you had to go through all this though on top of cancelling the wedding.
