hmmm I'm not sure. What gym are you looking to join? LA Fitness seems to be expanding at a good rate these days. I go there. It's pretty nice

I work for Life Time Fitness in Troy, in the sales department. I was a member before working here and I love it. PM me if you want any info. Also, even if the Troy location isn't closest I'm happy to give you info.

Thanks Allycat- i think it was you i was actually thinking about.

Considering Fitness USA- any reviews? My FSIL goes there and i like the idea of going with her for the first couple times to get familized. note- i am NOT an exercise person.... :( so it's very unfamiliar territory and uncomfortable for me. (very insecure)

Also considering Planet Fitness- BUT if i do a membership there my teenage neighbor will ask me CONSTANTLY to take her, which she already does w/o a membership lol.

    Any reviews...?

I'd recommend Planet Fitness -- I love it.  You can pay $10 for one-location membership.  Or $20 for access to all clubs and the ability to take a guest every time.  I would go -- and tell your teenage neighbor you can't take guests.  Or just don't tell her when you're going?  But its WAY CHEAPER than other guys.  I was paying more than 5 times as much at Lifetime and more than 3 times as much at LA Fitness.  You don't get the free classes, but they have plenty of cardio and weights.

My mom has had a lifetime membership at Fittness USA since before I was born. It was okay at first, but the facilities aren't very nice anymore and the class instructors aren't always licensed/properly trained. She had a bad instructor and is now going to physical therapy to help fix her neck from a pilates class.

I belong to Bally and Snap. I prefer Snap because no one bothers you - you're in and out. I'd probably join Lifetime if it were closer to my house because it seems like they have the best classes/equipment.

ETA: hey, this is my 500th post! I can't believe I've had 500 things to say in the past year...

She has her own membership and wants a ride.... tell her i don't have a guest pass isn't an option haha. Although just simply not telling her is an option.

Is it cheaper then Fitness USA? Their website says it's like $5 start up and $12/ month- is that not the case?...

I should note- i like fitness usa because of their lifetime memberships. My Fi's was injuried badly in a car accident and they have mentioned paying for a lifetime membership to a gym for him. and it seems reasonably priced for me to pay monthly. Thoughts?

I highly recommend LA fitness...i've been to a lot of gyms and you get the most for your money. It's $30 a month(you can go to any location), no contract, Free classes(the classes are really good), pool, all the normal weights and treadmills and at some locations (Royal Oak has them), all the treadmills, bikes and ellipticals have their own individual TV's. This is the selling point for me because I can go to the gym and watch my shows. Listening to music just doesn't do it anymore!

I am a lifetime addict.  I quit last summer and joined LA fitness because it was closer to my house but it just wasn't the same. My FI even told me to go back to lifetime because I use it more.   Lifetime is on the expensive side but their classes really can't be beat and there is just something about that place that makes me go 6 times a week and feel bad if I don't.

LA Fitness is probably the best for the money.  I used to belong to Lifetime and loved it, it's just so expensive. IMO LA is just as good, for half the price. Planet Fitness is great too, if you're looking for something with a little less frills.
