Zumbaaaaaa!

I know some people think this is cheesy but I love it.  I calculated the calorie burn with my body weight and intensity level and I burn about 500 calories per class.  It's fun too because our instructor plays the best music.  The hour flies by.  Anything that makes exercise fun and makes you sweat a gallon I'm all for.  So if you're out there thinking about ways to get your cardio in just take the plunge and shake your butt too zumba.  FYI- you can also show your fiance some of the moves you learned.  Mine appreciated it!  Tongue Out

Re: Zumbaaaaaa!

  • Be careful with that calculation. It, of course, depends on a number of factors, but only a good HRM can tell you for sure what you burn. When I tried zumba I burned no more than 300 calories. It just isn't high intensity enough (we often overestimate things like intensity).
  • Yeah, I burn around 500 calories for a 50 minute run at 7:20/mile pace--and I KNOW it's intense because, well, I feel like I'm going to die.  But some days I feel like I'm working just as hard and I'm running 30 seconds slower per mile, and I'm burning almost as much.  Why?  Because the intensity that my body feels varies according to soreness, hills, etc.  Buy a heart-rate monitor--it's really hard to estimate how many calories you're burning without one, and you might be surprised that you're burning less than you thought (the elliptical always tells me I burn a lot and I know it's not accurate based on how much I burn when I'm running AND accurately measuring).
  • I will def buy one of those monitors!
