Grrr - weight issue

OK, I've have until July 9th to get 10lbs off my fata$$ or my dress will not fit.  I know this because I picked it up yesterday and the zip didn't happen. Grrr.  Now I've had my dress for over a year but where the heck did these 10lbs come from?  Thank God, I LOVE salad! And walking 2 miles a day!  It better come off before that 1st fitting or I will be one frustrated, hot tempered Irish redhead!!!! And there better be some booze on hand if it doesn't fit.  Gotta keep up that Irish drinking thing, yanno. HA!

  • I lost 20 last year, but then I plateaued. Same stuff--activity up, calories reduced--nothing happening any more. I got frustrated and careless, putting 10 back on.

Trying to get serious again now. It is really frustrating though.

  • If you have a smart phone there is an app called Lose it.  I have been following it pretty strictly as far as calorie counting and have lost about 10 pounds.  I was just cleared from my surgery for running/walking so I have not done any exercise other than physical therapy.  You should definitely be able to drop 10 pounds by July.  Weight Watchers should help you lose that amount too.  Especially if you are walking.

Just be aware that even though it is a salad, it may have more calories than a meal of like chicken/fish and some good veggies.  I think a salad at Chili's has the most calories of anything on the menu.

  • I am joining WW after the wedding.  I have enough on my plate (pardon the pun) at this time to squeeze that in too.

Thank goodness for a corset back dress!

  • When I tried on dresses - the one I picked - fit perfectly - so I ordered that size I had tried on.  So when dress comes in - zipper won't go all the way up.  WTF?  Same size - except I didn't think about how the sample gets tried on a bunch - and is stretched a bit.

I fretted about how I was going to manage to lose a few pounds and never managed to lose any.  (typical of me)  Tried my dress on again this past weekend?  it Zips fine.  Seriously.  Can you say bizzarro?

I have an appointment on Saturday to get the straps altered - hoping it will fit everywhere else that day too!  :)
I finally went today and tried on dresses.  I'm completely disgusted by how I looked in them.  I need to lose half of myself, pronto.

  • I've lost 4.8 lbs over the last 4 weeks just journaling my food and making a conscious effort to stay within my calorie intake number.  I want to lose 25 more lbs by next June.  I have plenty of time to do it.  Next week I am going to add 30 minutes of walking every day and then as soon as I'm done with these two classes, which will be in mid-June, I'm going to add in some weight training and a little more cardio.

  • I started WW in February and lost 16 pounds - stopped tracking and started gaining back.  I have so much stress right now that writing down everything I eat is just sooooooooo not a priority for me right now.  Good thing - my dress - is a little bit too big when I bought it last year.  But seriously need to lose weight.
  • Lucy, are you set on DB and AA for your dress?  I talked with a lady at one salon and they said that those are great places to go if only to get an idea of what you like and don't like.  You can probably find something similar to the BM dress in a wedding gown.  Take a picture of it with you and tell the consultant that you have tried that shape on and that is what you are looking for.  Don't get too discouraged.  My dress was not a sweetheart, but they are going to make it a sweatheart neckline.  Mine is a Casablanca dress and apparently they are very accomodating to customizing dresses.

Good luck and would love to hear more.

[QUOTE The one dress I'd seen on their website that I liked, they didn't have in my size but I tried it on two sizes too small.  I'm not even sure I like it any more, but it's hard to tell when it's not the right size.  It was this dress:  http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Soft-Chiffon-A-Line-Gown-with-Ruffled-Skirt-9PK3218_Bridal-Gowns-Shop-By-Size-Plus-Sizes Posted by LucyHC
That's my dress.  I didn't like it in the photos on-line, nor did I pull it - but my sales consultant did.

I am pear shaped - so it helps balance me - you can't see my hips in this!  :)

Keep looking you'll find something lovely!  I also got a black bridesmaid dress for our AHR party.
  • Oh, I see.  I think that is a gorgeous dress.  And it being too small would definitely make you like it at least no as much.  I had a dress that I wanted o try on and the sample was a 6--really!!!  I found it at another salon in a 10--still to small, but thought I might like it.  Then I found it one more time in a 14 and discovered it was really not the dress for me.

If you can find another DB close by definitely try them because a friend on mine was just telling me that they do not have the same dresses in all the stores.  I was just looking at the Jasmine website and they have some realy pretty bridesmaid dresses that you can get in white.

You will find it and you will be lovely.

  • The main thing I was frustrated with was my failure to improve the look of my arms.  Oh well.  And I went overboard on the dress, but I loved it.

By the way, I still need to get bridals done because it came in about two weeks before my wedding, but I plan to sell it, if anyone is interested.  Hopefully by July.  It's a Reem Acra, and I'm going to sell it for about 50% off the original price.  It has a sweetheart neckline that I had raised in the middle because I thought it dipped to low for someone my age.  I also had the back raised 1 1/2-2 ".  The store I purchased it from was having a trunk show when I bought it, so I had a muslin pattern made and I can give you the precise measurements that it was made to.  I'm 5'5" tall and wore 3 1/2" heels with it.  It was altered a bit shorter in the front because I was concerned about tripping.  You can't really let it out, though, because there are four layers of tulle above the under skirt.

As an additional factoid, Taylor Swift wore the same gown in gold to an award's show.  You can find it--and how it looks on someone skinny!!--if you google Reem Acra and Taylor Swift.  I think she's worn two of her gowns.

Here are a couple of photos, if you're interested, and you can email me at tarheelbabs at gmail dot com, if you want more info.
