Outdoor Catholic Ceremony

Does anyone know of a Catholic Priest or Deacon in the New Orleans area that will perform a ceremony outdoors? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that it is a requirement that all Catholic weddings be performed in the Church. Honestly I don't think you will find a priest or deacon that will do it outdoors, as it does not comply with the rules for Catholic weddings.

I tried to go this route myself and could not find a priest or deacon who would perform the ceremony.  My grandparents are very close with a Catholic deacon and he said that he was not allowed to do it.

Finally I had to decide what was more important - outdoors ceremony or Catholic ceremony.  Since neither my FI or I are particularly devout Catholics we opted for the outdoor ceremony.

That may not be the right choice for you but it is one you will probably have to make so be prepared.

We were in the same situation as pp, actually fiance is traditional and wanted a Catholic ceremony even though he doesn't attend church as often as he used to, and I wanted an outdoor ceremony without the confines of the rules you have to follow when you have your ceremony in the Catholic church (i.e. cover your shoulders, you can't use the wedding march because it's not a religious song, etc.)  Since the church my fiance grew up in has closed and we couldn't find a church we liked without an outrageous out of parish fee, we ultimately opted for an outdoor ceremony presided over by a judge who is a friend of his family.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.

Thanks so much for the advice.  I found a minister who used to be a Catholic priest but left the the priesthood to get married to perform the ceremony.  We will have the marriage blessed after the wedding.

LOLways is right.  You have to get married in the actual Catholic church building--no outdoors, so I'm guessing what you're doing--ceremony, then getting the marriage blessed later--is the best bet.  Good luck!!
