etsy wedding gowns?

has anyone purchased their gown from etsy? i want something non traditional, and a tad casual plus handmade would def fit my wedding theme, but it just makes me a bit nervous so i was hoping for some feedback :)

Re: etsy wedding gowns?

  • I'm ordering my gown off etsy. Here's my advice:
    1. Read feedback - positive and negative. Ask the seller for brides you can reference. They can tell you all about the experience and how it is to work with the seller.
    2. Watch out for resellers. Many of the "handmade gowns" on etsy are really just people reselling cheap gowns from Chinese wholesalers.
    3. Make sure the seller is someone you can work with/get along with/ Communicate with well. A good seller will communicate with you often and will be willing to answer any and all of your questions.
    4. Get sketches and make sure there is a contract. Know the timeline for completion.

Do your research, choose carefully, and talk to lots of sellers. Make sure you are comfortable with the seller, the contract, the price, and your dress! I am getting my dream dress for about $600, made for me, by a wonderful seamstress who is very thourough and always available to take my questions. :D
    Hope this helps!

In addition to reading the feedback on etsy, I also googled the name of the seller. Etsy doesn't allow feedback after a certain number of days (120?), and some of these dresses take longer than that to be made, so feedback can't accurately be given for the final result. I found some negative things about the etsy seller I was interested in by doing the google search and decided against it based on that. That's just my particular case... I'm sure there are wonderful sellers there.

  • I got mine made from etsy and love it!  Exactly the right size and what I was picturing.  I agree with looking at feedback and also googling everything you can find on the seller.  Brides who have bad experiences will usually post about it.  I checked everything I could find, even facebook was a good resource as she had a page there too. Good luck!
  • I'm having a dress made by a seller on Etsy now! So excited for it to be finished! The seller is this awesome lady named Jada who's absolutely wonderful. She's making me a unique one of a kind gown with recycled materials. She sends me tons of pictures and is in constant contact with me throughout the process. We talk almost everyday. I can tell that her number 1 priority is for me to LOVE my dress. Jada Dreaming is her store name if you're interested. Provided a link below of a dress she made. Mine will be similar to it but will be floor length and flowy at the bottom. I'm an unconventional bride too so this kind of a dress is a dream come true for me. :o)
