Name change

I know it is a process but not an issue to change your last name after you get married.  Is changing your middle name at the same time in Florida the same process or is it two steps (middle then last or last then middle)?  I want to change my middle name (and not to my maiden name) when I change my last name and I wasn't sure how FL handled this and if anyone had gone through it.

I know if you just change your name for the heck of it (no marriage or divorce) it is a tedious process where you hve to go in front of a judge etc.  I'm hoping it isn't like this for my middle name if I do it once I get married and am already changing my last name.  Any advice would be helpful!

ETA:  not sure if it makes a difference but I am getting married in Virginia but am a resident of FL

Re: Name change

  • I'm pretty sure that you can just do it all the same time. I don't see why you couldn't. Just call social security and them, just to be safe. Also to make an appointment. It's sooooo much easier!!!

<div>#1 You file the name change in the county where you are a resident i.e Florida. </div><div>#2 You must file a name change petition that you can get from the Court Clerk's office of go to a site that may have easier instructions like <a href="http://howtochangeyourname.com" rel="nofollow">http://howtochangeyourname.com</a></div><div>#3 You can file your request to have your middle name changed at the same time, and it will be much much easier as you will already have your marriage ceritficate which is like a golden ticket to requesting a name change.</div><div>#4 You MOST LIKELY will not have to appear in front of a Judge, but you never know, every case is unique.</div><div>Good Luck!</div><div>-Joe</div>
