Recommend your Hair/Makeup Stylist!

Who did your hair and makeup? How much did you pay? I'm 11 months out, but I am starting the process of looking at pricing and my options. Life would be so much easier if people just put prices on their website. *sigh*

Re: Recommend your Hair/Makeup Stylist!

  • Where do you live?
  • I had my regular hair stylist do my hair for my wedding and another person at the salon did my make-up. Three BMs also had their hair done there. Plus side is they were reasonably priced. Downside was there was some logistics b/c the salon was 45 minutes away from the venue, but it really wasn't that difficult to orchestrate the day of.

I've been with my stylist for 10+ years. If you have a relationship with a hair stylist I don't really see the point of finding someone else for your wedding day. She did a great job and the great thing was it was something we talked about several times leading up to the wedding. Even though I only had one trial before the day, we'd discuss it every time I was in there for a hair cut the entire year prior.

  • I have been in panic mode about this since I couldn't stand the annoying way my last stylist completely disregarded the importance of being on time instead of a half hour or more late before she showed up!  But thankfully I just got a recommendation for someone who is really wonderful so fingers crossed she'll work out and I'll be able to keep her until the big day.  Of course my hair texture is thick and curly and soft instead of straight and fine.  But I know that there are tons of places where I live in Royal Oak that seem to get a lot of business for hair like the OPs (if the pic is you) at Salon 6 on Washington and Michael Angelo.  But I'm sure Yelp could be even more helpful.
  • The wedding is in Fenton, my parent's house in in Holly, and the reception is in Grand Blanc so anywhere around any of those would work. I live in DC and am getting married in MI, so I don't have a regular hair stylist who I can turn to for my wedding day.
  • Just a suggestion, but have you checked the Vendor tab on the Knot? THere are a lot of vendors there, and while their prices may not be listed, you can generally get some info from their websites.

I'd highly recommend mine, which was Deux Adore, but they are based in the suburbs around Detroit (on the east side) and they may charge a travel fee if you are not closer to the city.
