My Inspiration Board!

I think I've finally settled on an Inspiration Board!  Such a simple thing and it really doesn't have all the details of the wedding in it, but it really does help with keeping focus on what I'm looking for.

I don't know about you ladies but I know that I've certainly gotten confused and second-guessed myself a million times (especially looking at all the nice things here!).  But I think I'm really happy with the colors and feel of my board and planner :-)

Just thought I'd share!   http://www.theknot.com/inspiration-boards/Gallery/Details/120092

Anyone else finding themselves losing sight of thier wedding look?

Very pretty! I love the purple and the gold!

Honestly, I'm not too worried about it. I don't like to think of us having "a wedding color" cause it just seems silly to me.  But, the bridesmaids will be wearing Tiffany blue, so everything will match (sorta) to that.

Instead of creating a color board (and don't get me wrong - I really do like yours), I thought of how I wanted to actual event to "be" rather than how it "looks." I felt that the "look" would come after the "feel."

And by this, I mean that I took the painting "Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" by Seurat as our inspiration. I wanted our day to feel like a day spent in a park - our venue, my dress, and some ideas were taken from that "feeling."

We both have art backgrounds and work in arts/technology, so we integrated that (and the idea of the painting) by hiring an event painter. The artist will paint a canvas of our ballroom and paint in the bride/groom and wedding guests as the day unfolds. Pretty interesting.

We will have a photo booth (semi-park-carnival like), and are trying to incorporate many elements of nature - branches, flowers, grass etc. I have parasols for pictures, and FI and his family are birdwatchers, so I'm thinking of having birdseed favors in either our last name initial or a heart.  FI proposed while he took me out on his boat, so some element of a boat/sailboat/fishing could be included - our cake topper is of a little model of us on a pier, with a fishing rod in the groom's hand.

Our reception venue is wood paneled with stained glass doors, and is more of a historic dining room look rather than a marble ballroom with chandeliers (which you often see in NJ.) I'm not as worried about table centerpieces - the venue dining room is attractive, the grounds are gorgeous, and there will be something, but it won't be elaborate.

I understand a lot of that is a stretch from the painting, but my intentions are "afternoon in a park" rather than "colors." So, in answer to your question, I'm not losing sight in the overall look, but I'm not really following an overall look, so it doesn't really apply.

  • i love your idea with the painting!

and i completely understand what you mean about not wanting a color theme.  that's exactly what i said when i started thinking about what i was going to do but i kept getting lost with ideas and couldn't stay on track with the feel that i was looking for.  still not even sure what to call the feeling i'm going for, but i know what i want

the color board definately helps me out though.  i definatelydo'nt want it to be like, purple on everything, but hints here and there and in the style of the feeling i'm going for

  • Hm, think of some time of "theme" then and go with that theme with your (pretty!) colors:

    - Glitz and glamour and sparkles
    - Outdoor playing croquet and drinking mint juleps
    - Celebrity, red carpet affair with step and repeat photo bg with your names
    - Sports related (if you like a team with purple and gold - I am so NOT sports so I don't even know what teams are purple, but hey, it could be an idea!)
    - Garden party
    - Fall pumpkin patch

Endless possibilities!  If you think of a "setting" you can then choose your elements to fit in that setting and then keep within a color scheme. Might help keep you on track?
