Honeymoon Discussions

We're Hopeless, haha.

We're getting married in Oct 2013 (Yay!) and have no idea where we want to go for our honeymoon. We've been tossing around a couple ideas; but can't decide on one. I know we still have time, but he's being extra obnoxious about it & doesn't want to pick, but then he does, then he doesn't.... Tongue Out

Okay. So our current ideas: Ireland (or anywhere in Europe) or a cruise. I love the idea of going to a beach resort (you know, "typical" honeymoon trip) but I know that if we do he'd be pestering me within hours of being on the beach. (He's not a fan of sitting still for too long, ha!)

My mom said we shouldn't do anything we haven't done before (like the cruise) because we'll just want to relax and "be with each other". But, here's the thing. We haven't gone on vacation together... sooo... are you telling me we shouldn't go on vacation together???? *sigh* A friend of mine keeps suggesting we go to Thailand... but it would take like 30 hours of airplane travel to get there. (And then another 30 hours home... No thanks.)

What do you guys think? Do you have any other ideas for an awesome (but not terribly expensive) honeymoon?

[QUOTE]In Response to Re:We're Hopeless, haha.: Everyone's definition of 'not terribly expensive' is different. What's your budget? Knowing your max will allow everyone to make appropriate suggestions.

<div>True! I hadn't thought of that part. Well, a 7-night cruise, to us, isn't "terribly expensive" because it's basically all inclusive. So, probably (and this is something the FI & I need to discuss further, as we haven't yet... we're still in the " think of all of the ideas" stage) I'm guessing around 2500 is our limit. We're anticipating a 7-10 honeymoon, and we know the longer we go the pricier it will get.</div>
  • how do you know that your FI doesnt want to go and sit on a beach for a few days and relax? you've never gone on vacay together. sitting on some gorgeous beach halfway around the world is far different than somewhere here.

what i think you need to do is stop listening to everyone and sit down and make a list of  MUSTS for each of you. then find someplace that fits that list. if you want a few beach days fine-have them, but also have days for him doing something other than that.

also cruises are not 'basically all inclusive'. they do not include drinks, day trips, soda etc.. only some food and the stateroom. you might be able to find a cruise with an inside cabin for a week in the caribbean for that including airfare. you could do a cruise out of baltimore too to save on airfare because it's close to VA but the # of them that month is limited.

  • I think you guys should figure out a budget for sure before you even think about ideas. Vacations are always more than you would think and I know based on what you are saying you might be cutting it a bit close. Ireland on your budget might be cutting it a bit close. Europe is expensive so take that into account. And especially if you wanted to spend 7-10 days there.
You might be able to do a resort on that budget but closer to the 7 days 6 nights. Also resorts are only boring if you let them be. My husband and I Had a great time in Mexico and when we came back we almost felt like we needed another vacation to relax.

I think only you and your husband will be able to decide exactly what you want. You should start with a budget though and then when you have an idea, see if that will fit in your budget. As for an active honeymoon, that is the type of thing my husband and I love. We like being all over the place and experiencing as much as we can. We are not the relaxing type. We have the rest of our lives to relax and only a couple weeks out of the year to have fun and experience something new or different.

  • Puerto Rico is a good option if you want beach but lots to do. Old San Juan/Condado area has a lot of great beaches and there are tons of excursions or exploriing to do in the city. It's relatively cheap for the Carribbean. Might be a good compromise for you guys.

  • We were slightly disappointed in Barcelona after hearing such great things.  Although it was Easter weekend, so I think that impacted our thoughts. http://shineisntalwaysshimmer.blogspot.com/2012/07/barcelona-day-1.html

We used just a week in Ireland and it was fantastic! We booked a deal with Scepture Tours via Travelzoo.  For flight/car/insurance/hotel (7nights) we paid ~$1100/person.  Food/drink/sights etc was about another $1400.  I blogged out it and HIGHLY recommend!! http://shineisntalwaysshimmer.blogspot.com/2012/10/ireland-day-1.html
