ugly ceiling at venues....

Hi everyone... this is my first post! got engaged two weeks ago and looking at venues I live in southern fairfield county so i'm looking for a venue within an hour drive....I LOVE a couple venues in the new rochelle area in new york but there a little pricey. So, i'm looking into some CT venues unfortunately all the ballrooms I look at have these ugly drop ceilings I feel like in a basement! I just feel like NY venues are so much nicer :(
CT definitely has nice venues if your into the whole new england thing.  Both my side and his side are off the boat italian so i'm more into the glitz glam wow ballroom thing..... I need help!

Re: ugly ceiling at venues....

  • I can tell you that my venue does not have drop ceilings nor feel very new england (whatever that means) but it also isn't fairfield county. I can also tell you that as a guest, I have never looked at or remember a venue's ceiling.

I'm sure ladies here can give you better suggestions for that area, since I'm not familar.

  • I agree with amymaysa. My venue doesn't have a drop ceiling, but it's not in Fairfield County either. It actually has uplighting in it and along the walls with columns that is included in its price which is the best rate I could find. I also do not remember any of the ceilings from any of the weddings I've been at except for one but that was in a barn and I love rustic looks.

  • I also come from a big italian family where most of my relatives live in new york--so I understand the whole "glitz glam ballroom thing". There are many venues in CT that compare to what I've seen in NY IMO. When I was looking at venues for my wedding there were several yacht clubs on the CT-NY line that I loved and I didn't think the prices were too bad (about $120-150/person depending on time of year). All of the ones I know of in Fairfield County that compare to NY venues are priced around that range so if that's out of your budget I'd look in other parts of CT.

  • I agree with PPs.  I don't think I can recall really looking at ceilings as a guest at a wedding.  I also can't recall seeing any dropped ceilings when I was looking at reception venues.  Where have you looked?

Btw, congrats on your engagement and welcome.

Absolutely hear you....I ran into a couple of these when we were searching for a venue. We went with Cascades....their ballroom is gorgeous!!! LOVED working with them! We both (as well) have large Italian families & they worked with our specifics without hesitation!! Little farther of a drive but totally worth it in our opinion!

Hey guys thanks for all the replies maybe i'm just over analyzing things!!!
Cascade is on my list to check out I went to a wedding there and remember it was really pretty.  is there add ons to the menu? the menu online looks a little skippy I'm looking for the over the top obnxious cocktail hour with 20 different stations that the NY venues offer.
I loved the food at Anthony ocean view but the inside I was disappointed with.  Anyone meet with Aria? I'm wondering what food they offer

None of the venues I looked at nor the one I'm getting married at has a drop ceiling. And I honestly can't tell you what the ceiling or carpet at any wedding I have been too was.
  • Check out The Waterview in Monroe, the ballroom has huge tall ceilings with huge windows throughout, it's beautiful!

  • Check out Farmington Gardens in Farmington. I am getting married there this July. It definitely does not have a drop ceiling. I totally get where you are coming from though with the drop ceiling phobia. I have been to a few weddings and seen stained ceiling tiles which is a huge turn off for me.
