Engagement Party?

My fiance is really excited to have an engagement party. I'm not really against it but the idea stresses me out, we have a very tight budget so unfortunatly we have to have A list and B list guests and I just feel like its another event for someones feelings to get hurt. I have no idea how to go about doing this. Help!!!!

    Solution: Don't throw your own engagement party. It's a huge etiquette faux pas to do so anyway.

    Ditto pp your problem is solved since it's bad ettiquette to throw your own engagement party in honor of yourselves. If someone else decides to throw one for you guys then great! Parents, friends, aunts, grandmas, etc.. all can choose to throw you one in your honor.

    Aahhh thank you!  I just went to my first wedding ever this past weekend so I have no idea what's right or wrong or how to do any of this....

    How would you go about letting someone know this is what we want? Just wait and see? I just know he really wants it and is excied for it so I feel awful telling him we shouldn't plan our own and I'd be absolutly shocked and amaized if anyone we know has one for us... oh well.

    I wouldn't say anything unless you're asked.

    And remember that it's fine to throw a party for the sake of throwing a party.  You just can't call it anything that has to do with your engagment or wedding.

    The whole point of an engagement party is to have both sides of the family meet each other. Usually, your mother hosts one...his mother could also but she would need to see if your mom was going to do so first.
