PIP: Dress Shopping!

Hi ladies!

Do you have all your dresses now? I've been shopping in earnest for the last couple of weeks, taking a day and hitting up a couple of shops in a row. I've tried a few dresses above my budget for kicks. Found some AMAZING ones, but it's okay! They're not really what I want for a wedding dress, so not heartbreaking. Just the tiniest bit tempting. I've never felt silk like the silk in a Jenny Lee dress I tried on, and I didn't know my body could look the way it did in a Le Spose di Gio! But as much as I loved the dresses, I want something more like...the keyhole back, all lace, subtle sweetheart neckline Watters gown I tried on. I also loved the Matthew Christopher Tigris. And there was a Tara Keely dress that fit me fantastically and was very flattering -- but I don't particularly like the dress itself. All three dresses are SURPRISINGLY in my budget and fit amazingly! I wish I always had occasion to spend big bucks on outfits. It's so much more satisfying than trying on cheap clothes that just don't fit me.

What about you ladies? Do you have pictures to post of your dresses? or even better. YOU in your dresses? For those of you in the colder areas, are you planning on any jackets or wraps to get between places on the big day? Are you incorporating winter wonderland type ideas in your attire? Does January affect your choices in clothing? ie sparkle or shimmer or bling? :)

Can't wait to see what you guys have got up your sleeves!

  • Part of me LOVES the look of winter wedding wear... the other part of me wants to say, What's a date?? and wear whatever is cute.

IMHO: LOVE the MC. Very elegant.

  • I LOVE the Watters dress!! Let us know what you ultimately end up choosing.

I ordered my dress about a month ago...it's Sottero and Midgley, style is called Geraldine. Here is a link to it. It's weird, but I think it actually looks better on me than on the model! And I'm definitely quite a bit shorter and chunkier. The waist embellishment looks much prettier in person, too:

I"m definitely planning on incorporating a fur piece of some kind. Can't decide if I want just a little bolero or shawl, or a full jacket, or something else. I don't actually even need it b/c our ceremony and reception are at the same place, but I want some cute photos, and my fingers are crossed for some light snow! Winter definitely affected my dress choice....I wanted even more sparkle than I ended up getting, for a couple of reasons. I like my dress a lot, but do wish I had found something with some allover shimmer.

Isn't that so weird? I've also thought several dresses looked significantly better on me than on the model! At one of the bridal shops I went to, there was a tall, beautiful blond trying on dresses next to me. We ended up switching dresses! The ones I had all pulled that I thought would fit me just fit her so well and vice versa. If wedding dress designers can take in all different body types, why can't other clothing designers find some as well???

In either case, your dress looks beautiful!

I feel that way about my dress.
Here's the model in the dress. clicky

And here's me in the dress.

I bought early but mostly due to a whole big ton of serendipity. I can tell you though that that dress keeps me plenty warm honestly. There's enough material there to keep me nice and toasty. So I'm not sure I'll need anything else.
  • I'm basically ignoring the fact that I'm getting married in the winter in terms of style and whatnot. I found a dress I love, and I might end up wearing a faux fur somthing with it to get from the car to the site, but that's it. The beading on the bust goes around the back and down along the sides of the lacing. There's a lace overlay that's hard to see in photos, but is gorgeous in person.

  • Starqueg, You look wonderful in that dress. very pretty. :)
  • Starqueg, is your dress from David's? I tried it on during my search! I really liked it, but was just with a bridesmaid at the time...ultimately ended up picking my dress when I was on my "official" shopping trip with my mom, grandma, etc. But good choice!
  • I love seeing everyone's dresses! And I know they must look even better in person. :)

  • You all look so great in your dresses!
I had so much fun dress shopping!I cant wait to put on my dress again, even if its just for fittings!
Its not the best picture but it has my sister and I trying on dresses. My sister (on the left) didnt end up chosing that one. But I fell in love with mine.
I dont intend on wearing anything for the cold. It should be around the 70s in my area at the time and that'll be perfect for me.

Yep it is. It wasn't the dress I went in planning to get. I had gone on my own, and fallen in love with a dress. I went back with my dad and MOH and neither of them really liked it. This dress was on display and I tried it on a whim. I absolutely fell in love with it instantly.
Thanks!
