Freaking out about THE dress :/

Ok so I have to pick a dress this weekend (no other time off to look). I went last week and have an appt. this Saturday, and I'm really starting to feel the pressure.

I've always been tiny, around a 4, but have become a 9 since starting my new crazy job. When I looked at dresses it's all I could think about, and I couldn't get out of my own head. My friends kept reassuring me that I don't even look any different, and that my body will change before the wedding (starting to work out and eat right again), but I can't imagine commiting to a dress. I know the kind of dress I want, but the fit is just not what pictured with my new hips.

Anyone else going through this? Advice? :/

  • Yes, I've gained 20lbs since September, from being immobile for a long time.  I'm scared I wont fit into my dress.
  • Do you already have yours? I just can't picture commiting to a dress, hoping that I get tiny again. I also don't want to buy a dress I feel comfortable in now, because I feel like if I do get back to where I was I'll be pissed I went "safe"

  • I am going through the same fear. I have gained 30lbs on a medication they had put me on. I have lost a bit of it (around 7lbs) but working on getting the rest gone... my dress is being made to my old measurements because that was all put into work prior to gaining.

I do have the dress. I purchased it the weekend before I was hit by a car in the size I was then.
  • I am absolutely panicking and depressed because I'm so much bigger than I was a couple years ago. Sometimes I forget how much weight I've put on and will catch a glimps of my reflection or shadow and go into a really down mood.

I ordered a dress in the smallest size I could comfortably fit in now, and something that I didn't feel half bad in :) so the fitter I get, the better it will look.

It comes in Wednesday, so we'll see how that goes. Maybe it will be motivation to get my butt in gear.

This. I have gained a ton of weight inthe past few years and am now the biggest I have ever been. I too get really depressed when I see myself in the mirror or go out to bars and think that I used to be able to dress in nicer clothes, wear skirts, etc. I have been working out a lot and changed my diet and am hoping to get down to a smaller size by the wedding, but I only bought one size lower than my current size, that way if I do lose more it won't be insanely difficult to altar.
  • I bought a dress that I know I'd love on my "old" body but that didn't look terrible on my "new body."  I figure I'll need to have it altered a lot to fit, since I'm losing weight and getting fit, but I'd rather have a dress that needs to be altered than wait too long and not have a dress :/

I think you should do something similar- find a dress you can work with but would definitely look better on your smaller frame.  That way, if you don't lose the weight you want to, you'll still look great.  But if you do, you'll have no regrets.

I, too, ordered mine in the smallest size that fit.  And I'm hoping I'll still need to alter it down a size (or two!)
