Mentee wants to play gutair during ceremony

I have been matched throught Big Brothers Big Sisters for the last 5 years to a wonderful young lady as my little sister. I have gotten to know her and her mom very well and I coudln't imagine not having them at our wedding.

So, during our last conversation, my mentee asked if she could help with anything at the wedding. I talked with her about some of the DIY things we're doing and told her we could let her know when we are doing them if she still wants to help. She looked dissapointed when I suggested that, so I asked her what she was thinking she may want to help with. She immediately said she wanted to play the guitar while I'm walking down the asile.

I gentlely let her know that we had a song planned already that I was walking to, but that she could do a reading or play along with our pastor while he is playing the guitar during our salt ceremony. She was excited, but immediately wanted to know what she songs she could pick from. She's 17 and plays songs alternative/punk love songs.

Is there a song that a 17 year old will want to learn that won't be odd at our ceremony?

You need to choose a song that you want.  If she can learn it, fine.  If she cannot, then she will be able to do a reading.
  • How about "Last Night on Earth" or "When It's Time" by Green Day? I'll be incorporating both somehow into my wedding.
  • Actually, Green Day songs usually sound really beautiful done acoustically. Otherwise there are a lot of contemporary bands that are gaining popularity that have a nice acoustic sound (Avett Brothers and Head and the Heart come to mind)
