Changing your name?

Are you changing your name after you get married?

Re: Changing your name?

I'm keeping my maiden name because it's unique, and just tacking on Fi's last name at the end for my SS card and driver's licence. So essentially I'll be
Gina (Middle name) Maiden name Married name.  Hope that makes sense.

I'm going to be taking FIs last name. My middle name is really special to me and I didn't want to get rid of it.

I'm definitely changing my name!  I cannot wait.

I have actually always gone by my middle name (Brooke).  My first name is actually Jessica and no one has ever called me that.  So I've decided to change my name to Brooke (Maiden Name) (Married Name) and just drop Jessica all together.

Are you using one of those name change kits?  Has anyone used those?  Is it easier than doing it on your own?

I will be changing my name.
My FI and I are both teachers in the same elementary school and the kids are dying to start calling me by my new name.  They've been asking for the last year if they can start even though we aren't married yet.  They think it's going to be so fun to have both Mr. and Mrs. _____ as their teachers.

I changed mine, but I wasn't really willing to give up my maiden name completely, or give up my middle name (I really like the combination of my first and middle names), so I just added my maiden name as a 2nd middle name. So now I'm Kate middle maiden marriedname; but legally have the same last name as Brian. The only place that had trouble changing it was the DMV b/c they couldn't fit it all on my license.

I am going to take my FI's last name...although it's going to mess up my unique signature I have!

You know, I never questioned if I was changing my name - I always thought I would. That is, until FI called me Mrs. ________. It rocked me to the core. Eek!

I changed my middle name to my Maiden name, and took DH's last name.

I am not changing my last name.  I really like my name as is =)  I feel like it is weird to be so familiar with something for 27 years and then change it.  Plus I love my TT initials...if I changed it I would be TB...which is just wrong..haha.

I'm definitely changing my last name.  His is much better than mine!  :-)  Also, my middle name is special on my mom's side of the family, so there's no way I would drop it...and adding my last name in there somewhere would just make it tooooo long!  To each her own, though!  :-)

Im deffinately changing my last name and I can't wait! Iv'e always known that I would, refgardless of how terrible it was...lol (and it sure is different...) So I'm going with the traditional way, Amanda (Middle) (His last name)

I've developed serious attachment issues with my name. It's weird because I used to hate my first and middle names (Jamie Leigh) with a passion when I was a kid...I would actually save up my allowance to buy baby name books and pick out lots of names that I would plan to change my name to once I turned 18, lol. But now I just identify with it so much more...and I'm really attached to my last name because it connects me to my family, my great, big, loving, crazy Italian family. And I've accomplished a lot under this name, I've gotten my master's, presented at national conferences, and started running a clinic all before I turned 30. So I guess I just feel like it's too much a part of my identity at this point for me to be able to give it up. But we do plan to TTC in the relatively near future and I want to have the same name as my kids, so I'm going to just add on and be Mrs. Jamie-Leigh Maidenname FIslastname. It'll be long...but I'm ok with that. :) And the whole name change process intimidates me and I'm a little stressed being one month away from the wedding and two weeks away from unexpectedly having to move due to my landlord being crappy and refusing to fix our AC (after a long line of issues, so we are jumping ship :) ) so I figure I'll figure all of that paperwork out after the honeymoon.

I changed my name, even though I reeeally loved my old initials (AAA) but I know that my husband would have taken it personally if I didn't change my name.

Plus the new name is a lot easier to spell so it's better when I'm talking to people at work.

The name change process wasn't too bad...it just sucked that I had to change everything quickly because of my insurance licenses that had to be changed immediately.

I used this website, it's free and very helpful as it gives you step by step procedures.

It's not really that difficult to change your name. I would make an appointment though for the DMV and Social Security Office if at all possible. I didn't have an appointment at the DMV and it took me almost three hours to get out of there. You can make an appointment online for the DMV. My social security office wasn't busy and that only took like 15 minutes.

I changed my name. I decided to use my first name middle name married name. Although I kind of wish I had taken my maiden name as my middle name.

I also would not recommend paying for any name changing kit since it's pretty easy.

My advice is to make sure you order a few extra copies of your marriage certified when you're getting that done so you don't have to order additional copies later. (I got 3 copies I believe and it's been plenty).

I recommend Carolyn's website since it helped me: http://happilymarried.weebly.com/tips--tricks.html

Also make sure you have EVERYTHING you need at the DMV before going there..in fact I brought more than I needed because I didn't want to wait in line and then get told I didn't have the proper documents. Also I recommend making an appointment.

I'm changing it too---it;s my econd marriage so it'll be weird haing to get used to ANOTHER new name....I still find myself calling myself by my maiden name at times...it's hard to switch something you've done your whole life.  I debating whether to go with wendy middle maiden new or just wendy middle new.  I'll figure it out=)
