A Humboldt Park Wedding?

Hey there -

I'm in the beginning stages of planning my July 2012 wedding, & am researching venues.  I'm currently looking at Humboldt Park.  I used to live near there & always thought it was a lovely place.

Does anyone have any thoughts - whether they be kudos or complaints - about this venue?  Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Alyx

If you are looking for Chicago Park district properties, know that they can be sort of a pain to reserve (in my opinion) but also very beautiful and affordable. You have to apply for the location within the calendar year of the date. Meaning if you want to get married next July, you could only try to get Humboldt Park (or H.P. fieldhouse) 1/1/12 or later.
This is why we didn't go with a park district spot. It seemed too stressful for me to not know if we'd have it or not until like 6 months out. If you're a bit flexible on your date (i.e. don't care which weekend in July), then I would say go for it.

Humboldt Park is beautiful.  I love the boat house, the stables.

Did you decide to book Humboldt Park? I am looking into a fall wedding there. Curious to know what your experience has been thus far.

    Hi Sarah -

I did not book Humboldt Park, but I did stay with the CPD for the wedding.  Since most of our guests will be from out of town, I wanted to find a place that was convenient for hotels.  I chose Northerly Island (the old Meigs Field terminal).

I will say that Diane Hren at the CPD has been very nice to work with.  Apparently the CPD has decided they don't want to do special events on holidays, but we had our hearts set on a July 4 wedding (to celebrate the first day we said "I love you" to one another).  Diane pointed out the possible pitfalls we might encounter, having our wedding on a holiday (extra vendor fees/costs; possible traffic snafus, etc), but said she would talk to the powers that be to see if they would allow us to have it that day.  She came back to me a couple days later with congratulations & a contract.

If you've got local people I think Humboldt Park would be an ideal setting, especially since it's more reasonable than many of their other properties, while still having a lovely, romantic building.

I'm sorry for the delayed reply, & I hope you were able to book Humboldt Park.  I think it would be beautiful for a fall wedding.
