Seasonal Items

Newly engaged here.  Fiancee and I went to Crate & Barrel to get an idea on what we'd like for the home.  The store associate explained that some of their items were seasonal.  For example, if I put their bakeware set on my registry in August, it may still be available in March but only in whatever the spring color is as opposed to the original color I registered.

Do y'all know of any store that keeps products in the same color all year?  I'm getting married in March 2014 so that's right after stores change their seasonal products.  I'd like to avoid updating/changing my registry at the last minute.

Re: Seasonal Items

  • The plates we registered for at Bed Bath and Beyond are still there two years later! We registered at BBB and didn't have any issues with things being seasonal/going out of stock. We registered in Dec. for a July wedding. I am sure there ARE some seasonal items, but everything we registered for from bedding to kitchen stuff to home goods was still available come July.

  • A lot of stores do this.  Stores that sell outside brands like Macys and BBB (and by this I mean they sell brands like mikasa, lenox, wedgwood, waterford, etc.) tend to keep a larger inventory of the same patterns year-round, because the manufacturers themselves don't change that often.  My china pattern was started in 2001 and is still around.  But for every day dinnerware, the cycle tends to be a lot faster.  CB usually does keep a small standard stock year-round - the way you find out is by looking at the reviews and seeing how far back they go.

Unless you have a reason to register early, I wouldn't worry about it for a few months.  We registered 13 months out because I was graduating from law school, and a few people wanted to buy me things off of the registry for that.  But unless you have a reason like that I wouldn't worry about it yet.

BBB keeps a lot of its inventory in stock year round, or for seasonal items like grilling stuff, if it's not available in store it's usually available online.

The main things that tend to be seasonal and can get discontinued quickly at BBB are the bedding sets and framed art. Other than that, most of their products tend to stick around for awhile. You can also ask your consultant when you register, as they should have a pretty good idea of what is new and what is on its way out.
  • Have you already registered? It's way too early for May 2014. I'm getting married this October and I haven't event registered.
  • I agree with the other ladies, Seriously, for your May 2014 wedding I probably wouldnt register until October/November. I registered in late October for my June 2013 wedding, mainly because people wanted to get us things off of it for Christmas. I have not had one thing go discontinued.
