Sonic ring cleaner

Good morning ladies.
so yesterday i went to register at walmart. LOVE that place. lol or at least their cheap stuff. and i went to the jewelry counter and was looking while waiting for someone to wait or me and i saw a couple products. the first one i recommend the second one i dont.

first one is a sonic cleaner. its small about the size of a soap container and battery operated. i stuck my ring in it last night for like a minute and a half and my ring looked new. of course i then slept in in and its all dirty again. but the cleaner worked great and was super effective. the only down side is it was a little loud.. not bad just a humming vibration noise.

second one. the Diamond cleaning  pen thing. they say its great for on the go when you dont have a sink or water. this is a LIE it left nasty gunk all over  my ring and my diamond looked like crap. i had to bring it home and put it in the sonic cleaner to get all the crap off. and the pen is expensive and i feel a total waste of money. so dont buy it.

Re: Sonic ring cleaner

  • I have a sonic cleaner as well and I love it. Mine is a bit bigger, and you can put anything in it that you can put water on. CDs, DVDs, jewelry, there is a setting for watches that aren't water resistant, DH cleans his glasses in there a lot too :)

  • My jeweler told me that some of those can damage your rings.  The vibration can loosen gemstones, and softer stones (opals, pearls, etc) can be scratched.  Just a heads up.

  • I agree with J&K. My jeweler told me the same thing. He suggested just cleaning my ring with soap and water to get it sparkly again, and it actually works! I don't really like to mess with all of the cleaners and chemicals and stuff, I let the jeweler deal with that.

  • The cleaner that I have has a little basket you can put jewelry in, so that it isn't hitting anything during the cleaning, just the water. I've used it for about 4 years now with no problems :)

  • It's not hitting the basket?

  • Best cleaning method I know of is what I use. I soak my ring for 20 min in warm water with 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Then I rinse my ring under water and shine it with palmolive dishwashing liquid.

Always comes out sparkling clean :)

  • Yeah, be careful with the sonic.  I've worked as a jeweler at boutiques and at a pawn shop, etc.   It can loosen settings and pave or invisible set stones can fall right out.

    Puzzle has a great method.
  • My jeweler told me Windex was safe, and also an excellent way to get a stuck ring off your finger.  I've used it more than once to get my e-ring off when my fingers swell badly.

  • I use the baking soda and warm water method about once a month, maybe? Works like a charm! I don't even shine it, lol, I'm lazy....but looks sparkly enough to me Smile

  • I just use an old toothbrush and warm water on mine most of the time and that works really great, between cleanings at the store.

  • i checked it out and since my ring is diamond only they said it was safe
