Wedding Woes

Why not just say blue and purple from the start?

C&P

i have put my wedding on hold and am franticlly working on my daughters for September. I have never done a seating chart or escort cards. Can you direct me somewhere to learn how to do this? I understand the logic of seating people together.

Her colors are Malibu and Regency I am finding trouble finding linens in these colors. There are tons of different shades of blue but having trouble finding one that closely matches her choice of Malibu and it seems purple is purple. Help please! I need a shade of blue that is closest to Malibu.

We are expecting approximately 80 guests and will be having a buffet style meal catered. My daughter and her financee are both under 21. She is insisting no alcohol but I have explained to her she needs to have this option for her older guests. What do you think about not serving alcohol at all?

Is it really a big deal if we choose not to have the caterer cut the cake and save that $200

We are having a candy buffet as the wedding favor as guests leave. Does it need to be in her wedding colors? Like blue and purple candy?

  • These must be some David's Bridal colors.  LIke my dress for the upcoming wedding is "Marine" but really, it's Tardis Blue.

    this made me laugh:

"There are tons of different shades of blue but having trouble finding one that closely matches her choice of Malibu and it seems purple is purple."

    no kidding.

  • I wish people would speak more precisely when it came to color names and descriptions on this kind of forum.  WTF is 'malibu' blue?  I went to a College for Art & Design. I have a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree). I literally took a class on color which I aced. I *do* not * know* WTF malibu blue is.

Therefore, I can not help this person much.  My only constructive piece of advice for anyone who is seeking a very specific color is for them to Google "pantone," find the colors in question, learn their pantone names, buy a swatch for each color (Dessy has them available) and use this in face-to-face meetings, and otherwise to scan or copy and paste a JPG for web-related inquiries.

Paint stores can make any color *spot on* for things like painting bookends or wicker chairs for cocktail hour decor, vases, picture frames, card boxes, wine crates, candlesticks, etc..  Fabric stores with a good selection could be a resource for fabric to use in draping a table, making a backdrop/screen, bunting, shawls or wraps, petticoats with colored tulle, ribbon, etc.

  • My sister had purple in her wedding, and purple was NOT purple, it was a pita matching actually.
  • Ali, you were right.

well, if she is having a hard time matching colors, she needs to carry a swatch of whatever the hell shade of blue and purple she is looking for. until then, purple IS just purple.
  • *Confession:  I perfectly matched my BM dress color to a Sherwin-Williams paint swatch and carried it around so that my reds all matched exactly.

Oh hell, I still do this stuff.  The crib I want is grey and I cannot find a single retailer in the entire state that carries that brand in store so I can see what color grey it is.  Drives me batschitcrazy that I'm going to have to order this damn crib online sight unseen.  I need to know if the color is ok!

And to throw this schit out there: I have a BS in Interior Design, so I know my damn colors too.

  • Ali, in case it comes up?

    Tardis Blue is Pantone 2955C.

Am I the biggest nerd yet?  :D
  • Oh girl, I have that pantone color pinned on my Dr Who board.
