What do you think?

We are going to Japan for our Honeymoon. My questioning is for; do you think it's a good idea to splurge on the flights? We want to witness the supposed greatness that is First Class. We both have never flown in an airplane so we want to make our first time in planes, an enjoyable experience. Plus it's our Honeymoon. So, what do you think? We already found reasonably priced hotels in the citys we will be over nighting in.

Re: What do you think?

  • And we are using the local transportation systems. We don't want to rent a car, we feel it would be a waste of money when we will be doing so much walking otherwise.
  • OH and another thing is that we are doing a DIY wedding. The only thing we are paying for is a photographer and city costs to use a park for our wedding.
  • If you have the money, then why not? Going into debt for it is not worth it, but if you are happy with what you have planned for the rest of the HM and the wedding and you have the money to cover all of those things, then by all means! It really is a personal preference- a lot of people will say "save the money and do more activities" or "a better use for the money is for a home project or saving for a home." If you don't have a need for any of those things, then great! I personally almost always fly first class or business class overseas. Sometimes I use my miles, but most times, I pay for it. For me, it's all about getting rest and arriving bright eyed and pain free (I have back problems.) I typically forgo first class for business if the seats are lie flat in business. It will save you money if it's an option.

  • I have back issues too and having to sit in a cramped area is not what I want to deal with on our HM. It would kill me to have to deal with that. Plus, we want to be pampered the entire HM and what better way in the air, than to fly first class and enjoy champagne and delicious food! I believe we definitely will do the fly first class. We have the money, so as you said, why not! :) Thanks!

Back pain aside, almost every international flight will offer alcohol and food, even in economy. It will be a limited selection and perhaps limited quantity, but you'll still get it. However, for me personally, it's worth the money for me to be comfortable. I usually sleep through the meals anyway and miss the food and beverage offerings!

  • Yeah it is worth the extra bit to be comfortable.
  • if you have the extra 20,000 to blow on a plane ride go right ahead!

Not all first class tix are $20K. For example, I paid an additional $2200 per person to upgrade to business class when going to Tahiti. I waited until I got to the airport for my upgrade to Fiji and only spent $700 personeach way  for the upgrade!

For both me and my Fiance it is a total of $4474. That's the full round trip, not just there.
