Menu Tasting, when? WAC or Dome Room- Artic club?

I am wondering when should you have menu tasting?
Is it ok to ask for menu tasting before you book the venue?
Say like if I wanted to go with any hotels?
I am planning to have my reception at the Washington Athletic Club or the Dome room, but I am not sure on how their food tastes. any experience?

    I don't have experience with either of those places. Yes, it is totally okay to ask for a tasting! We had booked our venue, and had the option of three caterers. We did tasting with two of them to help make our final decision. 

    I think it can depend on the venue or caterers. Some places have menu tastings for example $100, and if you decided to go with them, the'll deduct that from your balance. You'll just have to ask!
