Cakes and Cake Toppers - a silly for the days before Holy Week

One of the most fun things I have done the last few weeks has been cake tasting! Who knew there were so many options?? So I thought I'd ask...what will your cake look like? Round, square? Tiers or platforms? Fondant or whipped icing? What flavor(s)? Flowers? Cake topper??

To answer my own questions...

Right now, we are planning to have three round tiers plus a half-sheet cake. The tiers will be amaretto (no liquor, just the flavor) with some fruit filling. The sheet cake will be pound cake, which was absolutely heavenly. We plan to have the lighter, whipped topping.

Now as far as flowers are concerned, the theme is fall, so we're thinking fall flowers sort of twining around the layers.

We haven't decided yet about a topper. I really, really want to find a smallish spun glass shooting star (I found a glass one, but it was gigantic), but if not, we may just go with the flowers...

Okay, how about you???

We had a round 3-tiered cake with 2 flavours - vanilla with guava buttercream, and chocolate with hazelnut buttercream. We liked the vanilla guava one so much that we ordered a mini one for our first anniversary. Mmm!

    I originally wanted...

but it was sold when I went to buy it on Etsy.  We are going with this instead.

ETA: My cake will be three tier and it is LIME fluff.  ohm nom nom.  It is my favorite cake and the bakery at home makes it only around St. Patrick's day.  They agreed to make it for my wedding on April 30th though.

This is my cake.  TK kind of reduces quality.  There's a full quality image in the bio.
White buttercream. The flavors were chocolate, vanilla, and raspberry.

Close up of the cake topper:

It now sits happily on our self with the rest of my precious moments statues

I have some flower pics in my bio.

We had a square, offset 3 layer cake. All white cake (neither of us like chocoloate and really didn't want to do a lot of other flavors) with buttercream icing and real flowers on it. Pics in bio.

My cake topper was awesome, I loved it and had to have it when I saw it. It was a ceramic cross. Pics also in bio. I would like to have a little metal plate engraved for it and put on it. That is, if I ever get around to it someday.

We did table cakes. So there were maybe 8(?) different flavors. Ours was a mini 3 tiered cake, almond flavor. And it was still amazing on our anniversary. Here is our epic cake topper, made by DH. We're total nerds.

Flowers- for the maids- they had different hued pink gerberas (below is a pic of all 7 of them, plus mine!)
My boquet had mini gerberas, roses & stephanotis.   And our cake is below.   I had ordered a flower topper (which is to the side of it), but my MIL bought the topper that is actually on the cake. I liked that too, so I used that, but forgot to cancel the flower topper.

The cake itself was awesome- we had marble, white with rasberry filling & chocolate with white chocolate mousse filling, all with buttercream frosting.   Each tier was a different flavor.  We also had two sheet cakes (300 people total).   We ate the top tier the next day or the day after with my family.    I ended up ordering a cake for my birthday when we went to my mom's for the holidays!  I think I will need to do the same for DH when we go visit this summer. He LOVED that cake.

Here's my cake inspiration. So ours will be buttercream on the outside (I think this is fondant here), and will have purple/yellow flowers. Out cake topper is just my new last initial in silver. Flavors are: bottom tier--marble cake w/chocolate buttercream; middle layer--yellow cake w/strawberry preserves; top layer--chocolate cake w/chocolate fudge

Our cake will be a two-tier white buttercream dusted in edible "fairy dust" and will have silver dragees concentrated at the top and in an assymetric pattern, thinning out as you move down the cake. There won't be a topper. There will be a pale pink fondant ribbon with a pale pink sugar peony.

Flavors: white chocolate amaretto for the main cake (plus some sheet in the back) and chocolate cake/choc mousse/choc buttercream sheet cake in back.

Ours will be 4 square tiers, 2 choloclate, 2 almond with buttercream frosting.

There will be ribbon "stripes" in our wedding colors and the same topper as MissySue (checked the bio). We also fell in love with it! I'm inheriting my grandparents' curio cabinet, and I'm excited to include the topper in it someday!

This was our cake:  (The detailing on it mimiced the detailing on my dress)

And a close up of the sugar calla lillies on top:

We had alternating layers of red velvet with white chcolate buttercream frosting, and lemon-ginger with passionfruit frosting. So good!  We're already having spirited discussions over which flavor we'll pick for our anniversary cake. ;)  (we ate our top tier already).

Here was our cake.  Three layers: vanilla with fresh strawberries and cream, tuxedo cake with chocolate raspberry truffle filling, and red velvet with cream cheese.  We didn't have a topper (I wanted a big initial of our last name, but my mother vetoed it), just fresh flowers.
