Where can I find postcards and pillows... (Oahu - Honolulu)

Hi Knotties,

I've been looking for these items for cheap and thought I'd ask you all if you have ideas on where to get them preferably in Oahu so I don't have to travel or ship this stuff. (lol I already have 3 big boxes coming with me.)
  • Vintage Hawaiian Postcards for guests to write notes to us and maybe in welcome bags too.
  • Pillows (fuschia, gold or green) I'm looking for 14 pillows for the reception decor but it would be way too expensive and bulky to send these over. Is there somewhere you can suggest I look when I arrive?
  • Vintage Luggage for decoration.
Thank you!

Vintage Hawaiian post cards are not easy to find.  I've been collecting them for years and only have maybe 20 of them. However, you can find retro ones all over Hawaii once you get there.

You can find vintage luggage on etsy.

Do you have family in Hawaii to send the pillows too? Have them delivered there instead of to you and then you shipping it there?

True vintage postcards are probably pretty hard to find.  But postcards with a retro vibe can probably be found at most stores -- ABC stores, and all of the local "trading" shops geared toward tourists.

For pillows & decorations, I would consider Pier 1 Imports (pricey!) and other local decor stores.  Walmart & Target may also have some.  If you absolutely must, you could probably premake pillow covers here in the US & bring them with you unstuffed, and then just buy some stuffing once you arrive on island.

They have a large selection of Retro post cards at the Walmart in Waikiki. We almost bought them for our welcome bags, but opted to get slightly cheaper ones. I think they were .30-.50 ea from what I recall. They had some of diamond head, hula girls, surfers, etc...Rounded corners. I bought a few so I could send you pictures when I get home.

Thank you so much everyone! Absolutely great ideas.

For postcards, yeah I think retro post cards will work fine. I found some online at Island Art Cards but didn't know if they were a good price especially if I can find them in Waikiki.

Tanq - that's a brilliant idea! I actually purchased fabric and was going to start to making everything and then I did a test run of packing all my stuff. Making the pillows just didn't make sense when I factored in shipping. It would make sense if I just made the covers though! that I could do. If I can't get everything sewn though I think etsy may be my next stop :)

Luv etsy - I'm going to start the search now.

Regarding the post cards, I used them for my Save The Date and I bought them online. yes, you can find them in the ABC and hotel convenience stores, but they are marked up (3 for $5 or so). I purchased the vintage boxed postcards (set of 10) for $5.98 ea. if your order total exceeds $38 i believe, shipping is free. i bought enough to where the shipping was free.

I think i will be buying them online at the same online store. I have had the page open and ready to purchase for like two weeks now but i just wasn't sure if i can find the same selection on Maui for around the same price.  I only have $16.00 worth so i will need to eat the shipping costs...oh wells at least i don't have to go looking on island and i can purchase the ones i want. J. :-)
