April 2013 Weddings

fuh-ri-day

I am stoked for this three day weekend. FI and I were supposed to go up north but he found out last minute he has to work on Monday. I was bummed but whatever; now I think we are going to the lake all day Saturday and we can spend it with my favorite kids.

I really need to knock some stuff off of my wedding to-do list, but I just don't want to. I would rather buy a house first lol. I don't want to buy a bunch of stuff for centerpieces and then have to move them. vk = lazy.

I hope you all have a great weekend, be safe!!

  • Woohoo long weekend!  I am leaving work early today and having some friends over for drinks and snacks tonight!

We might try to go to a local fair this weekend and I have to start working on my speech for my friends wedding at the end of September.
  • TGIF!!!

We just moved last weekend into a new apartment closer to NYC so we will be unpacking tonight.  Tomorrow we are going to a winery with a bunch of our friends to celebrate. (My birthday was yesterday) Then Sunday FI is cooking my favorite, homemade pasta and meatballs and we are having our families over to have a birthday dinner.  Then Monday is more unpacking.  I am just ready to have all the boxes gone already.  It stresses me out just to be home and look at them!

  • Happy belated birthday!!!!

I've been so busy lately.  Last night I worked the Steelers game, today I had a full day inservice for teaching, tomorrow I work the Pitt game, and I still have things to unpack here and TONS of school things to do.  Ugh.

  • Happy Belated Birthday!

I apologize in advance for this ridiculously long post but it's pretty awesome:

FI and I just got back to St. Pete from a weekend of wedding-planning fun :-)  His parents came down from Pittsburgh and stayed with my family in NC.  We did a cake tasting and ordered our 4 tiered monster.  I thought we were going to do the two-tier and a sheet cake plan but the 4 tiered cake was only about $50 over budget so we figured, "what the heck, why not?"  It's going to look AWESOME!

That night, we taste tested the caterer's food.  I feel so much better about the fact that we had already booked them and paid a deposit sight unseen, or taste untasted I guess?  We booked them based off of our photographer's recommendation and after our parents tried it out.  The staff was super friendly and accomodating and the food was great.  Yay!!

The next day, we met with the florist.  I had a quote from designs I emailed her but I wanted FI to get in on it and kind of see what other ideas the florist had to offer, as well as let our moms pick out the types of corsages they want.  Originally I was going to go with basic hydrangea bouquets for everything but I think I'm going to jazz mine up and put some roses in it.  Also, I need to be on the lookout because we're going to enhance our simple flower centerpieces by adding arrangements of three cylindrical vases filled with water and a few hydrangea blossoms with a floating candle on top.  We're using long tables instead of round tables so I was concerned that they'd look to sparse with just the flowers.  The hunt for cylinders begins!

After we met with the florist, we stopped by my parents' rental house, where we're going to hold the ceremony and reception.  As luck would have it, there were some renters in there setting up for a wedding so it was nice for my future in-laws to picture what it would look like for us.  The same company we're using for our tent rental had come and set up the exact same sized tent that we want so that definitely helped us picture everything better :-)

That night, we stopped by my parents' favorite restaurant and my FMIL booked it for our rehearsal dinner.  It's probably the most formal place at the lake but they have a back room and since we're getting married in the "off-season" it was available.  We're going to do a buffet-style dinner to include fried chicken and pork roast and one more undecided entree with a few sides.  It sounds like I have no say in what happens with this rehearsal dinner, which is fine by me :-)

Finally, we got our invitation design and wording finalized with FI's mom(she sells Carlson Craft stuff).  We also took care of napkin designs, etc.  The paper stuff is always hard for me to get through but I'm glad we just sat down and hammered it out.  While we were doing that, FI and our fathers were outside setting up the wedding arch that my parents purchased for us to make sure that everyone liked it.  It's going to be so pretty!!!  That night was family time and my sister and her kids and husband came over and we had a little early birthday party for me that included a card that my niece and nephew made, cake, and some backyard fireworks :-)

The only downside to the weekend was finding out that my FMIL hadn't ordered the proof for the Save the Date yet because she's still not satisfied with what we designed.  Also, she added about 13 more invitations to the list so who knows how many more people that includes, some of them have a couple of kids...FI said he would talk to her once I get the list typed up and we see what the total number ends up being.  We had 260 names before the weekend but I'm thinking it'll be closer to 300 now....ugh...I'm just glad FI knows how out of hand and how expensive this can get for us if we don't say something.

Now that we're back in St. Pete, we're going to take it easy by ordering some pizza and catch up with some friends(the BM and his girlfriend) tonight over gelato in downtown St. Pete :-)  Yay me, I get to make the 6 hr drive back home tomorrow :-P

    Cheers to the freakin' weekend!!!
