DL Video Productions / Epic Video?

I hired DL Video Productions awhile back, and have been super excited about them!  I went to go show a friend their work today, and when I typed their name into Google, a WHOLE BUNCH of negative reviews popped up!

Anyone heard about this?  Is this one disgruntled client causing a fuss, or has there been a pattern of bad service here that I should be worried about?  Anyone out there have any ideas how I can protect myself (especially as I paid in full)?!

Re: DL Video Productions / Epic Video?

  • Just looked them up on wedding wire and it doesn't look so good.  Looks like he responded to a negative review in the past, and then didn't respond to the numerous complaints...I would keep digging on this one....

  • I just spoke with David, the owner, and he explained that a hard drive was damaged last year in an accident, and they had thought the hard drive automatically backed up but it apparently did not so the data was lost.  They have spent a lot of money trying to rectify the situation, and I understand that the films are simply not replaceable and some brides are understandably furious and no amount of money will fix the problem, but they do seem to be trying.  More importantly for those of us still to be married, they have taken precautions now to back-up in 3 locations, one off-site, so this doesn't happen again.

  • I also hired DL Video Productions/ Epic Filmmakers last year for my wedding this September. I was so impressed by their work I must never have Googled them for reviews, which is something I normally always do. Now I'm really nervous! I do know someone who used him last October and it literally took six months to get their video and there was one mistake in the video when they got it. That was the only negatives they had to say, and overall the video was really beautiful. Still makes me nervous though! I was also really looking forward to using him!

  • I have to say, I did not hire a videographer for my wedding. However, if I had, I would have hired David in a heartbeat. I had seen his work at a bridal show (a Love Story) and instantly loved it.

I hired him to do a "Love Story" for my now-husband and I, which is basically a 7-12 minute short film with the two of you together or separately talking about your relationship, how you met, why you love them, etc. He spent a good 3 hours with us, I believe, and he had it finished in record time, We were able to meet up with him and view it to make sure we were happy with it. We loved it and showed it during our rehearsal dinner and cocktail hour.

I was so impressed with the videography and the way he melded everything, and the video was so emotional, and perfect to show to our future kids someday.

I know I didn't have him do my wedding (just because we didn't hire anyone at all for videography) but I would back him 100%. Well worth the money, extremely professional, and very in tune with what his clients are looking for. I hope this is helpful. :)

  • I met with him when I was looking for a videographer and I'll admit I was not impressed with him. His emails kept bouncing back. When we met, he took a phone call in the middle of our meeting on his cell and I got a total vibe off of him that he thought he was the best and I should hire him on the spot.

I was just not impressed with him at all.
  • DO NOT HIRE HIM!

I am one of the many bad reviews on him.

Yes, he screwed up and didn't back up his hard drive. Because of that screw-up, he lost 10 couples' wedding footage (one of the couples being a Wish Upon a Wedding couple, the wife only to have passed away 3 months after her wedding to breast cancer.) I was just contacted by another mother who hired David under his new business name, Epic Filmmakers, for her daughters quinceanera in Feb '12 and she is ALSO dealing with the SAME issue, and this is a completely difference situation. He told her the files were corrupt that her footage was on. He damaged the hard drive that my footage (and the 9 other couples' footage) was on in Aug '11. This is extremely common practice of David and how he continues to do business. I strongly urge you to not hire David. He does VERY poor business conduct. And if you have hired him, FIRE HIM ASAP.

Also, FYI, he is in default of the lawsuit against him right now that we have against him (meaning he hasn't responded to our lawsuit, even though the court requires a person to respond to a suit filed against a person with-in 30 days.)

    Still want to hire him?
